Re: Globulisation!

My goodness Terry, weeping, cracking, rings dropping of, humidity, what oil is best if any (by the way I use macadamia oil on my wooden whistles to good effect) I’d say my decision to go with a Delrin flute looks better everyday. Does Delrin have a life expectancy? In the year 2224 will my Delrin fl...

Flute Embrochure

Good Morning or Good Evening, I am in the process of attempting to transition from whistle to flute. Been at it about a month and I am getting somewhere. My biggest problem at the moment is running out of air far too quickly. It’s not a physical issue as I have no difficulty on a whistle and if usin...

Re: Stuck

Hello Terry, the dental floss is definitively used on the tuning slide on the Syn Low D. When I first looked at a Syn Low D say 4 to 5 years ago Erle Bartlett was using plumbers tape on the tuning slide of his low D’s. By the time I purchased one from him at a folk festival say 3 to 4 years ago he h...

Re: Stuck

Might be worth mentioning that my Syn Low D came with dental floss (instead of plumbers tape). Had it for about 3 years now and still fits well and I have yet to replace the dental floss.

Re: High C recommendations

I’m sure the rule of thumb that you don’t want a C with the same diameter as a D is correct but like any rule of thumb there may be exceptions. I have a Syn D with an interchangeable C body with both bodies sharing the same diameter - obviously the C body is just a little longer. The C body is easie...

Re: Best high D whistle under 100€ ?

Don’t overlook the Syn high D. Well under your 100€ benchmark and in my humble opinion the equal of the Killarney and the Mellow Dog. The bonus with the the Syn and the Mellow Dog is you can add a C tone body and still be well below your financial benchmark. As a below average player I suggest that ...

Re: The search for "the holy whistle grale".

In support of Mr Gumby’s point whenever I have purchased a new whistle - and there has been a few - after an initial play I have generally put the whistles aside with a bit of disappointment that they had not played like I had expected and hoped. After time I have given the whistle(s) another try an...

Re: Low D's made out of wood?

I was the member who had the Benedict Stewart up for sale. There wasn’t a lot of interest so I still have it. I consciously play it more these days. It is actually too good an instrument for someone of my limited ability. Has a much more gentle flute like sound than the aluminium Syn and MK low whis...

Re: Jerry Freeman Low G

In my opinion it would be more of an ethical mis-step to ignore the reference to “Generation “ in the description particularly given that the head used is a tweaked generation whatever the type of body used. Can you reasonably grab a whistle head from a maker tweak it and then ignore the brand of he...

Re: Jerry Freeman Low G

Interesting enough discussion but none of it addresses my original question asking if anyone has tried the new aluminium tubing G and how does that sound compared to the brass tubing. I can hear (or at least I think I can) a distinct difference between the two when listening to Kevin Crawford’s YouT...

Jerry Freeman Low G

I see from the latest YouTube video put up by Jerry Freeman that he has a new low G whistle with an aluminium body. Has anyone tried one of these and more importantly how does it compare to his brass bodied low G?

Re: Benedict Stewart Wooden Low D

I have had this wonderful wooden low D up for sale for a number of months with seemingly little interest. Is the price point too high? Tell me what you think is a reasonable price. At the moment the whistle is sitting idle and it seems a waste too me.

Benedict Stewart Wooden Low D

I have put this up a couple of times with minimal interest. Still available. I have a Benedict Stewart Low D for sale made of Rock Maple. A little over a year old. Purchased for $990 AUD. I haven’t used it a lot. It’s a lovely whistle with a mellow flute tone. Probably not quite as loud as an MK. My...
