Re: The 50's cliche' chord progression challange

{Thread revival. - Mod] I was a kid in the 60s and you could still heard a ton of 50s song on the "oldies" station. Virtually ever Do-Wop song every written had the I vi IV V progression. Some are mentioned above, there are a gazallion others. One of the most clicheest ever "Remember...

My favorite color is burgandy red, what I put on my list, and what she bought.

Tube diameter affect on playing.

I gave the wife an Xmas list and put a Killarney Brass High D and and MK Pro Low D on it. I figured she'd pick one. She ended up buying both. Lucky guy. So my go-to high D has been a Dixon Trad which I believe a Aluminum. It's noticeably better then the $10-12 whistles are started with. I'm playing ...

Re: Alexa

As a bonus way to learn this tune, I like this guys channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByZ11mE3BIo I will definitely check that out. I'm really glad I learned notation when I was a kid on several instruments as it's incredibly useful when learning disconnected from technology. I can learn from...

Re: Low-D piper's grip, both hands or just lower.

Love this tune and see the piper grip on both hands -- https://youtu.be/gffi7iYk7z8?t=26 Now this video, Stephanie is using a tip grip on the left while covering the tune above. It doesn't look comfortable at all to me but I guess it works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUSzWN02-38&t=172s I've...

Me: Alexa, how many sharps in A Dorian? Alexa: Here's something I found on the web. According to the session dot org, the whole tune is in A Dorian which has one sharp. How coincidentental, I'm working on the The Dunmore Lassies from the sheet on thesession.org and was curious if I had figured out w...

Smallest Playable Whistle

I'm curious what others have found the smallest whistle they can play. I bought a Dixon Trad (high) E a while back and I rather like noodling around on it now and then. My fingers are just starting to touch each other. I'm curious if I could even play a high F or high G. I have pretty much a Large g...

Re: Anyone play whistle in bluegrass / foik / country oldtime jams?

I started going to BG jams again recently and one I attend is pretty laid back, medium speed, a couple guy play harmonica which is folky/country but definitely not bluegrass in a strict sense. This reminds me of a classic story about Bluegrass legend Bill Monroe: A bunch of people are playing in a ...

Re: Low-D piper's grip, both hands or just lower.

... On the Low Whistle "pipers grip" since the ring fingers are using their endjoint pads, I keep the three fingers of the involved hand flat and rotate the whole hand, pivoting on the index finger, which withdraws the ring finger. To be clear none of the fingers arch, all staying flat. S...

Re: Low-D piper's grip, both hands or just lower.

I do think I'm likely the piper's grip better than the tip grip on the left hand. But, 1/2-holing hole three for a G#, I can't figure out a way to do it and keep holes 1 and 2 covered. If I try to bend my knuckle of my 3-finger to cover half the hole on one side of the whistle, 2-finger leaks air. I...

Re: Low-D piper's grip, both hands or just lower.

Thanks for all the great info. I definitely piper grip with the right hand but I'm going to keep practicing it with the left hand. I did try one thing today that was harder. One march I play has a chromatic four-note run with a G# accidental -- F#,G,G#,A. Half-holing the G# on my high-D with a tip i...
