Re: Whistle Giveaway

“Sunday’s Well” by the great concertina player Caitlin nic Gabhann is my choice as well. Lovely tune.

Re: Used Dixon whistle prices

Anyone know what's behind Dixon downsizing their whistle line? I wouldn't be surprised if demand is at issue for low polymer whistles other than D, but I would have thought the Brass Trad was among their better selling models.

Re: Carbony Leading vs.Mezzo?

I've got a leading tone Carbony in D -- high D, not low. It's the standard bore, not the louder session bore. When I got it I had the opportunity to compare it to the non-leading tone version of the same whistle, and didn't notice a significant difference in the bell tone volume. The 7th hole gives ...

Re: Very basic editing of lesson and session recordings

I use Audacity for splitting into individual tracks - works great! You can then do equalizing, etc, fairly easily... Not sure why you find this difficult. I haven't tried Audacity yet. I've read some reviews saying the interface can take some time to learn, but maybe that's just for more advanced u...

Very basic editing of lesson and session recordings

I recently purchased a Zoom H1N recorder for capturing lessons and some session tunes. Previously in lessons, I'd try to record specific segments with my phone, but it was distracting, and I'd sometimes miss capturing things my teacher was demonstrating that would be really helpful to refer back to....

Re: Anyone purchased a Clare whistle recently?

Good to hear they're still going, even with the passing of David Le Bas. I'll try contacting them again, and wait patiently. As I live in the U.S., it's quite possible they're on their way, with a sojourn at customs.

Anyone purchased a Clare whistle recently?

I placed an order for a couple of Clare whistles close to a month ago from https://www.tin-whistle.com/ . Apart from the receipt from PayPal, I haven't heard anything. Tried a couple of email addresses associated with the site, and no response there either. I'm not in a rush for these. But wondering...

Re: Looking to learn concertina: suggestions?

Yes, you'll want an Anglo for ITM. Most folks choose a C/G tuning, and thus most tutorials assume that's what you've got. Other tunings are available, and often cheaper on the used market since there's less demand for them. They can and are used for ITM, but you'll be off on your own figuring out fi...

Re: The latest shenanigans from the whistle workshop...

I too love the look of these. Makes me think one could turn any stop sign post into a low whistle, since where I live every street sign is mounted on this kind of post: https://images.homedepot-static.com/productImages/fecaa2a8-7242-4ea6-8ed5-8008b64768ba/svn/everbilt-bar-flats-tubes-rods-803037-64_...

Re: CP: Freeman Bluebirds are back!

I need another D whistle like I need another inch added to my waistline, but as a big fan of the Freeman whistles I already own, I'm tempted by this one.

How does it compare to the Blackbird in terms of both tone and how it responds? Curious what might be different about the mouthpieces and bodies.

Re: The Irish flute: An instrument or o style?

Just when I thought C&F was losing some of its verve.... Personally, when mentioning the instrument to those unfamiliar with it, I absolutely want to name not only the music-producing device, but also the music I strive to make when I use it. In part that's because, for reasons I don't myself un...

Re: Best sounding high D whistle

I have been reading quite a bit in this forum and all over other websites and the more I read, the more confused I get. :) Money aside, what is the best sounding high D whistle in the world. Give me the top three (in case, I have to eat back my words about "money aside"). By best sounding...

Curious who the Mary Bergin of Irish traditional harp might be—someone who has made high quality readily available recordings that set the standard for the instrument.

Re: information needed on B and Bb whistles; oh and A and G

Anyone have experience with Bb, A's and G's? I am attracted to the lower notes. I don't want to get the wrong one. This will be my last whistle purchase for probably a long time. I really like all of my Freeman whistles--D, C, Bb, and G. But I will caution you that I can't comfortably play the G gi...

Re: Concertina is calling me

Thanks for the tips! I'm still undecided if I want to start with a Rochelle. I know I wouldn't be satisfied with it long term, and I'd only buy it because of the trade-up policy offered on it by Concertina Connection (the maker) and The Button Box. It's tempting as a way to get started relatively ch...
