FS: Olwell Keyless D (Pratten Style, Blackwood & Silver) SOLD

This is a post I hoped I would never have to make, but financial issues necessitate that I seek to move on my beloved Olwell Flute. This is the large hole (Pratten-Style) model in the key of D with a sterling silver tuning slide, fully lined head (also in sterling silver), and sterling silver rings....

Re: Whistle and flute

I'm another that came to the flute through the whistle. I'm really glad I started on the whistle. Having a bunch of tunes under my belt and knowing how ornamentation worked was a huge help. I still like to learn tunes on the whistle a lot of times since it's easier to get the fingerings and melodies...

Re: Tips for managing intonation using 150+ year old flute

The irony is that the whole reason I decided to plop a couple of grand on a real flute was because my pvc practice flute's low E was a little weak and I found myself spending a LOT of time trying to overcome the breathy sound that wasn't a problem for any of the other notes. I should have caught on...

Re: Questions about intro vs pro and how to choose.

There is probably something to be said for not spending too much on a whistle until you know the type of whistle and style of music you intend to play. Get yourself a Cillian O'Briain improved or a Timothy Potter as a reliable not too shrill option (or a Generation or Oak as far as I am concerned, ...

RIP Kevin. Your music and recitations will be sorely missed in Chicago and beyond I'm sure. I am so glad I stumbled across his music in the not so distant past.

Re: experiences with Jay Ham flutes?

Will and Colin are both fantastic flute players, so if they say Jay's flutes have got "it", there is no doubt in my mind they do. And Will, your album The Glory Reel is grand. I love your playing style. I also have really been enjoying your livestreams and the Phonograph Project snippets I...

Re: WTB Keyless McGee 5088 or McGee Rudall Refined

Always worth a try... I'm seeking a keyless McGee 5088 or Keyless Rudall Refined from the CONUS side of the pond, if anyone is favorable to letting one go for a reasonable price. I'd prefer the improved elliptical or two semicircles embouchure, if possible. Minimum Disruption Tenon is just fine. Se...

Re: Your Life with Tin Whistles

I got into tin whistles after going to a local Irish Pub on Sunday during a Session and loving the music. This brought me to The Chieftains, which in turn brought me to Paddy Moloney and Sean Potts. I was immediately taken in by the sound of the Uilleann Pipes, looked them up and realized they would...

Re: Harry Bradley recordings

Does anyone have a source for Harry Bradley's recordings ""Bad Turns and Horseshoe Bends", "The First of May", and "The Night Rambler's Companion"? All my usual sources show "Unavailable" or are silent on availability. Thanks in advance. Best wishes. Ste...

Re: Patrick Olwell flute....what to choose?

What flute is going to work for you is going to be VERY subjective. I can give you a bit of information from my own perspective, but what I'm looking for in a flute and what you are looking for may be totally different. That said, it's always nice to get more information out there since I went throu...

Re: CP - New micro-documentary about Geoffrey Ellis Flutes

Very cool video! I saw it on facebook a few days ago. Very well shot and edited and the flute sounds great. I think it's a great advertisement for what you do!
