Thanks all.
I'm assuming the embouchure would be like sounding through a finger hole--not impossible.
Sometimes the bark feels wrong for the music I'm playing -- so that can be an advantage. Looking forward to the new challenge.
Chas, thank you for the offer, but prefer resin (and the price).

Bernolin traverso-Rottenburgh or Delusse+Palanca embouchure
Hello everyone. Really love my Gary Sommers Irish flute, but have been playing more, more music (Eastern European, Middle Eastern, and simple classical) that wants a more chromatic instrument. I've gotten fairly good at cross fingering and half holing, and I also made a big mistake back in my tin wh...

Re: Half-holing rasp
re: practice: No doubt about that.
Is there any tricks to pull this off? From my whistle and low-whistle years I know that cutting the wind flow get a purer tone.
but when I do that Fnat is just too pale and has very little music in it.
Any thoughts?

Half-holing rasp
Hello, I'm several years into low-whistles and about 6 months into irish flute with the purchase of a Somers Delrin R&R which I love so much. I'm having a very hard time half holing. F nat is terrible. A get a very unpleasant rasp. I've looked online and have read that half holing is "harde...

Re: Low Whistle - a nice B in the 2nd octave
All of these seem to be working much better on first blush, thanks you very much for these techniques Richard, Benhall, and Mike. Very appreciated— I’ll get to work on them. I have noticed the bottom finger phenomenon somewhat and have worked to find some alternative resting places for my fingers. R...

Low Whistle - a nice B in the 2nd octave
Hey all, I am plagued by not being able to always get a perfect B in the second octave. I am obsessively playing Ashokan Farewell (transposed to G) fixated on it, but still I break a lot. I'm on a MK. Don't have the problem as much on my Tony Dixon but then can't use the beloved MK. It could be the ...

Are there other tunes that sounds amazing slow.
I am more of a slow air guy, not hugely into the upbeat tunes. I think Cooleys at normal speed is OK, but played slow with some ornamentation I think its the most beautiful thing I've ever heard, and have play it at least a few times each day for a few years now. It doesn't work seem to work with mo...

Re: Clarke Meg & Freeman Blackbird
My first whistle was a $2 clarke woodstock. And after developing a little more technical control, and and creating a proper block w/ bluetack I'm returning to it, it's not bad. I see I came too late to this, but... The blackbird is good choice, it's my own favorite right now and sounds and plays won...

Re: Tenor sax mouthpiece on a tin whistle
Thanks Old Dog, that looks quite good. The clips of it sound wonderful. Very difficult to find in the US though.
Perhaps I will go the Xaphoon route to give the reeds a try.

Tenor sax mouthpiece on a tin whistle
Hello, I've been playing tin whistle for a few years, lurking here and reading your advice. I'm was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction here: can a sax mouthpiece be attached to a tin whistle body? And overblow to the 2nd octave? Looks like it might fit a Bb generation with some tape...
