FS: LeHart 6-key - $1,500 SOLD

Parting with my LeHart to fund a set of drones for my pipes. Useless trivia: This is particular flute used to belong to Dave Copley's son. I acquired it from a friend here in Ann Arbor a few years ago. I've taken it to Conor O'Neill's and played alongside Sean Gavin many times. He has played it and ...

FS Chris Norman Keyless D Boxwood

I've had 5 great years with this flute, but it's time to thin the herd so I can add a set of drones to my pipes. The flute is keyless, all wood, with an unlined head. It's a fantastic player, extremely light in the hands. It's modeled after Chris Norman's personal flute. It has small holes and is ve...

Re: Flute Hold Right Hand Pinky

This thread has been very helpful for me. I just started with a keyed flute a few weeks ago and it’s great to have new grips to try. Does anyone have experience using their RH ring finger to cover the bottom hole for stability? I know some players don’t use their pinkies at all and rely solely on th...

Re: Keyed flute advice

Thanks for the great advice everybody! This was helpful for me to consider. As luck would have it, I was able to connect with a few other c&f members over the weekend and had the opportunity to play some great flutes: Olwell pratten style, Copley delrin, LeHart, Lesouef, and a Gallagher large ho...

Keyed flute advice

I’m looking for a flute recommendation. I’m currently on the waitlist for a keyed Olwell, which should be ready in 2025. I’d like to get something while I wait so I can get used to the keys. Who is making good flutes that doesn’t have a long waitlist, and has a lower price like around $2,000? I’m cu...

Re: Smart phone/Tunepal aided playing at a session

Very relieved to hear you were able to have a face to face conversation with him and he's encouraged to keep coming. I think that's the most important thing. Is reading music at a session a total buzzkill? yes. It's the session leader's responsibility to set boundaries and keep everything in line. D...

Re: Your very first tune

It was recent, Summer of 2019: Sean Gavin taught me "ta an coileach ag fogairt an lae" in the back room of Connor O'Neill's in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He put on the Raw Bar Collective's recording and we listened while we ate lunch, then had a beer and learned it on the pipes.

Re: Loudest keyless flutes (or largest bores)

Also my flute skills may be the inhibiting factor on loudness here too, so more opinions always welcome. I've been at it for about five years now, and I must say that the more I improve, the louder my flutes get :D This is certainly an oft-debated topic. But it seems the general consensus is that o...

Re: Baritone Regulator tuning issue

Hamish - I'm curious to see what ever came of your baritone reg. Did you try a different reed from Tim Benson? Also, did you find anything new about your reg that helped with the tuning?

Re: How to tweak a Clarke ...

Just tweaked my Clarke and I’m really happy with it! Honestly, just narrowing and flattening the downstream end of the windway would have been enough for me; the wind requirement was just too high for me. But I’m glad I kept going because the tone just kept getting better and better the more I tweak...

Re: Are you getting any better ?

I'd be happy to be an average good piper but I'm lazy when its comes to practice. RORY Honestly, that was my problem as a musician for many years. I had a lot of natural talent, and could pick things up very very quickly. However my ability to focus during a practice session was terrible, and I wou...

Rory, I'm afraid to took this discussion to a far more strategic place than you intended! I'm curious to know if you have any thoughts on the matter - or perhaps some of your trademarked wit to help lighten the load?

Re: Are you getting any better ?

Beyond that tantalizing effect, I think that everyone has a built-in ceiling that regardless of work ethic cannot be exceeded. I suppose the lesson is that, when acquiring a new instrument or any craft, one will reach the same degree of proficiency as they do in other related endeavors. So the ques...
