Re: Small handed flute = pitch problems?
Dave Copley made me a flute with both third finger holes offset and shorter spacing (not because of small hands, but because of reach/tendon issues). Absolutely no pitch problems, love this flute. So it can certainly be done if the maker knows what they are doing.

Re: Used woodwind / disease, how to sanitize them?
Tea tree oil. In my experience, the trick is not to swab it on your flute. You put a drop or two on something like a Q-tip, put it in the barrel, leave it there for a day, and take it out, wait another day or so for odor to dissipate if you're sensitive to it. Need to use the high concentration vers...

Re: Delrin flutes...
I have a lot of flutes of various materials (probably at least 20 different woods), but have only owned Delrin Irish flutes. First was a Paddy Ward, which was amazing, but I am selling it because of some tendon issues. Second is by Dave Copely with finger hole adjustments that have completely solved...

FS: Paddy Ward Keyless Delrin
Not sure if Paddy Ward is still making Delrin flutes, as they aren't listed on his web page. Very nice flute with silver rings. $550 including shipping within US.

Re: Looking for a keyless delrin
I will be sadly selling my Paddy Ward Pratten-style delrin, but it won't be for a few months. Because of some tendon issues I'm having, I need one made with some accommodations, and Dave Copely will be doing that for me. So once that comes in (ETA May) and I know it's working for me, the Ward will b...

Re: High D and Low D Whistle.
As others have said, but I will add one thing. Don't be afraid to try every whistle in the store. A few years ago I was in Dingle and decided to try out the low whistles in the local music store (VERY friendly folks). All they had in the price range I was willing to consider were three Dixon metal D...

Re: Flutes in hand luggage (EU)???
So glad someone else remembers Group W! A bit over a year ago I traveled through Amsterdam, Berlin, Munich, and Dublin airports with flutes (more coming back than going, but that's another story). Same experience as others, generally no issues, one agent checked the aluminum low whistle leaving Dubl...

Re: Hall Crystal Flutes
I got a Hall first, pretty much for the same reason you are talking about. I was able to play it right away and enjoyed the tone and experience (I used the pinky approach, too, and my hands are moderately large), but quickly realized that the tone, to my mind, was soft and it wasn't very responsive....
