Re: 3d-printed whistle head: strengthening lower octave
The reason you need big holes is because the hole pattern is too far toward the bell end.

Re: 3d-printed whistle head: strengthening lower octave
The finger holes line up only because you used the same pattern at different starting points. If you line these up window to window, or end to end there is a better context over hole placement vs size. Are your measurements linked to a spreadsheet yet?

Re: Question about flutemaking
I'm a hobby bamboo maker. On a good day with the right stalk I can burn out a flute in less than fifteen minutes if I'm lucky. Most of the time there are several hours after, spent watching netflix and making small adjustments to the fingerholes to get everything in tune at the same volume, etc.

Re: Why Eb not D# (flute key names)
I wonder if a real instrument has been made with this scale. The root is almost exactly a quarter tone between Bb and B in the A=440 equal temperament. It would be a really long whistle. I still have a Bb bass flute around 52”. I’m not tall enough to play it comfortably but I gave a green one to a ...

Re: No whistle Youtube thread? Well then!
The main press in making a double english tabor is getting an octave from two pipes in harmony with one hand. My prototype I posted has already been modified to move the G pipe down to the same hand position as the D pipe. With another pair tuned in fourths, I’d be able to play four pipes with two h...

FS: Several bamboo bass and alto flutes
If anybody here is around 6' tall and would like a new challenge, I have inventoried the bamboo flutes I have made over the last few years. I have more in storage, but haven't gotten around to sorting them lately so these are the best I have at the moment. A few of these are my personal flutes that ...

To improve your grip, you might be more comfortable using your first index finger joint after the palm. Pipers' grip is usually ringtips and middle joints on middle and index fingers. Using the inner index joint will probably make the line from your hand to your wrist straighter-- I've heard that st...

The mac app 'preview' can stitch together PDFs; I combined 65 pages last night for our local session in Leesburg VA. I don't know if it works on jpegs; you might need to convert them to PDFs first.

Re: UNDERCUT Whistle Blade - seen any good examples?
I've seen several labia that are 'flat' in that they slope in the same direction on the top as on the bottom. Look at how a basic clarke is made-- the metal tube is folded in to create the labium. The inside edge of the labium slopes toward the inside of the tube, and the outside edge of the labium ...
