Re: Comments needed on my playing
Don't bother quoting my posts, Loren. I put you on ignore.

Re: Comments needed on my playing
True -- but it has nothing to do with the topic of this thread. Good that there is an ignore list on this forum .

Re: Comments needed on my playing
Sometimes I just…….don’t even know how to respond to posts that people drop around here. Then maybe you just ... shouldn't! Or maybe not sound as condescending as you do in about every 2nd post. BTW -- I have subscribed to her channel on YT -- never saw her play the whistle on her channel nor offer...

Re: Comments needed on my playing
Shannon Heaton is one such teacher, if you need a recommendation. She plays the flute however. But most of it would probably be transferable. I come up short with whistle teachers myself. But Conal Ograda and Brendan Mulholland also offer Skype-Lessons. Conal (who is also a member here) also offers...

Re: Comments needed on my playing
I'm thinking there are more well informed members here than in those groups honestly. But in the end -- the best advice is probably to "listen a lot and play a lot". Or get a teacher well versed in the musical tradition one wants to learn. But getting good advice on FB? No way. Yes, some m...

Re: Comments needed on my playing
Why not post here? Nowadays (especially since the pandemic) I don't do FB anymore. Also -- there were some members in those groups (posting a lot) who often didn't really know what they were talking about. So advice was often plain wrong or at least biased to some type of "modern playing style&...

Re: Flute Buying
Some of the least expensive wooden flutes around are made by David Angus. http://shop.fifeanddrumshop.com/epages/es143324.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/es143324/Categories/Low_D_Folk_Flutes And they are pretty good. I have one in purpleheart wood with stainless steel rings. Just lovely. Maybe not the ...

Re: Delrin Pratten
I just didn't like how it behaved when sawing a piece off or trying to get a nice edge on the block. Wood is much easier to work with. Even an aluminium block was easier to make. Even just getting a clean cut in a straight line free-handedly was annoying. The blade just didn't wanna go through it in...

Re: Feedback on Shannon's tuning (flute made by WD Sweet Flutes)
I still cannot reach your homepage. That has persisted for a few weeks now. Will it be up again once the new Shannon is ready? Or is it my browser? But I tried it on a couple of different ones to no avail.

Re: Delrin Pratten
If Delrin has this much difficulty in machining, I'm wondering why more flute makers don't pursue the carbon fiber option as with Carbony flutes. Maybe a different set of difficulties? Faster dulling of the reamers than with a softer material? I'm not sure how these are made. Carbon fibre is even w...

Re: Delrin Pratten
I never made a complete flute from delrin -- just some blocks for tin whistles, but that was already annoying enough. Filing, cutting -- it's worse to work with than either wood or aluminium and even steel (I made a few whistles from stainless steel).

Re: Delrin Pratten
Ooh, a conical metal flute. I thought there must have been something like that in existence. Way cool! I tried to simulate the specifications of a wooden flute at least in wall thickness by using a 3mm thick aluminium tube. But due to the bore profile of 19mm there were a few tricks necessary to get...

Re: Delrin Pratten
Unfortunately more and more people are riding electric bicycles. As if all those gears didn’t make pedaling easy enough. So true. In case of the electric car -- they took something and made it better. In case of the bycicle -- they took something and made it worse. I use something like this btw: ht...

Re: low g search
The Dixon brass models have been discontinued. But the aluminium G model plays very similar. I have both.
Here's an older video of me playing it.

Re: Brass body or Nickel ?
Considering that the bodies of standard whistles like Generation, Feádog or the likes are only nickel plated but brass underneath I doubt there are much if any differences in sound - all else being equal, like when swapping out the same mouthpiece between 2 different bodies. I wonder however if ther...
