Re: New Player with a Question
@tstermitz You're of course right about the additional modes. I didn't include them as I'm not too familiar with the traditional Irish tunes, so I don't really know which modes are most common. I have to admit I mainly play other music on my whistles. Yesterday I played together with my wife who pla...

Re: New Player with a Question
Funny that so many recommend a Generation Bb. Just bought one of those yesterday and love it. Not really useful when playing with others though - except for clarinets and saxophones :). One thing that hasn't been mentioned - on a Tinwhistle it's very easy to play two scales - 4 if you also count the...

Re: Dixon comparisons
I have mixed feelings about the Dixons. I have a Tony Dixon one-piece flute in low D which sounds lovely but the Tony Dixon Trad whistle in G (brass body) that I have doesn't sound too great IMO. It makes a lot of unwanted noises (and not of the 'nice' kind like the breathiness of an 'original' Clar...

Re: Hello....I'm new.
Hi and welcome from another newbie . Nice thing about whistles - you don't go broke when buying a few - at least not if you buy low end. And it's also not too hard to make some yourself from PVC tubes. Some of my DIY whistles actually sound better than some of the ones I bought.

Re: Has anyone made a ridiculously large bore whistle for fu
I think I'll try the same design with a smaller bore or I'll modify this one. However I don't think the size of the holes matters much as my low C whistle with the Quena mouthpiece design has even smaller holes and is perfectly in tune. I think I'll have to check that again however. At least it's mu...

Re: Has anyone made a ridiculously large bore whistle for fu
Hi guys, this thread inspired me to make a new DIY whistle (low D) - this time with a proper fipple block - so far I only made whistles with Quena-style mouthpieces (or transverse flutes) as they're easier to make (yet harder to play) and suffer less from a flat second octave (don't really know why ...

Re: Quena- Andean flute
Piper's grip might help to cover the holes properly.

Re: Photos of your collection!
Hi guys, New member here from Germany and my first post. A little about my musical background: My 1st instrument was a nose flute that I got when I was 8 yo and which I still own to this day. I think at around 12 I got my 1st tinwhistle. Then took some flute lessons when I was 13 or 14 I think. But ...
