Re: Great contradiction with bore condensation

Yah..it's surface tension..no doubt about it...dry wood, polymerized oil, and delrin are all more hydrophobic than a "damp" surface.........water molecules like to follow each other....a quick wipe w/ a bit of whiskey will straighten it right out !

Re: Back pressure in a flute

Ha. Whatever the physics I thing Jack and I were agreeing that despite the 'loose coupling' there are several mechanisms for sensory feedback through the mouth and lips. Yup! Had a friend who was a pneumatic instrument engineer......was always amazed at what he could measure through a hole in a pla...

Re: Back pressure in a flute

The 'trying to whistle but can't get a sound out' noise. I think of Acoustic streaming as the gas flow response t...

Re: Back pressure in a flute

Yes, that's the first two....I think you are thinking of the venturi (Bernulli) effect where the drop in pressure is a measure of flow..................

The third I had in mind was radiation pressure (the acoustic version)

Re: Back pressure in a flute

I'm getting confused. Doug's OP was about back pressure. Are you saying that that is not at all related to DC flow ? Possibly getting my sciences mixed up but I think the term 'pressure' has different shades of meaning between fluid dynamics (? DC) and acoustics (? AC ). Yes, you have static pressu...

"..if the demand is there" is the key phrase... The rule of thumb hereabouts for us small shop people is if you get to keep 10% of gross sales ...your doing about right.....(and your investment is about twice annual sales........Gulp!) Maybe I could convince you to take up sputtering as a ...

Personal 2 cents on bending ? (maby Tal will weigh in here ?)....blowing harder and/or flatter across the head will tend to sharpen....softer and/or down into the head will flatten....when setting the tuning slide cold I use G and see 20 cents sharp and 30 cents flat and about +/-25 cents as it warm...

Well, ya...the "average" flow spirals a bit and flows down the tube.....while the "dynamic" flow (or sound pressure/flow wave) bounces back and forth. The "average" flow is one of the things that can be used to flatten the pitch. PS: this is one way we used to make acou...
