Re: German Flute
I restored a Geo Cloos Nach Meyer last year. I had the issue with the pinned head cap. The metal had deformed slightly allowing the cap to spin freely over the pins. I end up drilling the old pins flush and setting new pins . Worked great. On my flute the key pins are threaded into the uprights. You...

Oboe, Oh No!
I found this old flute mislabeled at a thrift Store as an "oboe with no mouthpiece". I thought a bargain at $60! Cocus or Rosewood? Silver head cap and foot cap. No pewter plugs on the C & C#. It seems to have been well played in it's life. No makers marks (perhaps under the electrical...

Hi Walt,
In regard to your upcoming models, I thought I read that you were considering a keyed model? I can’t find the post where you mentioned that…was I dreaming?

Re: Firth flute 6 key demonstration, and Rudolf Tutz
Friends, I am really enjoying this conversation. I just acquired an Edward Baack (mid 19th century NY) 6 key cocus, courtesy of Jon Cornia. In comparison to the charts that you have posted it measures: #4- 7mm, #5- 8.4mm, embouchure- 10.5 x 11.2. This in comparison to my Burns Rudal copy: #4- 7.5mm,...

Have you noticed that the Casey Burns web site returns a 404-not found message for all the pages?

Re: Feedback on Shannon's tuning (flute made by WD Sweet Flutes)
I always thought that the tuning on my Shannon was great. I found the tuning of some other makers not as even and used the Shannon as a benchmark.

Re: Simple vs Boehm Air Requirement?
To be clear, I find that I can play my Burns Rudall, my Copley standard, and my Powell Boehm using the same embouchure with the same air requirements to produce good tone. The difference in volume is noticeable though. The Rudall being the more quieter, the Copley being more “Prattenesque” with larg...

Re: Simple vs Boehm Air Requirement?
I picked up the Boehm flute a year ago after 10 years of Irish flute playing. The high price of good keyed Irish flutes drove me to the Boehm. I have no formal training and have relied on YouTube for learning during the pandemic. Key fingering aside, I find the air requirements similar. The differen...

Re: Questions regarding renovation?
Interesting comments. You all have very sharp eyes. Now that you mention it, comparing the center keyed section to the foot and head, they do appear to be of a slightly different shade of wood and the diameter on the keyed section is narrower. I guess Frankenflute it is. Judging by the general grime...

Questions regarding renovation?
I just picked up this lovely old 5 key blackwood flute that needs attention. I've attached some photos next to my Copley flute for comparison. I have some questions regarding renovation of this flute. There are no makers marks on it. Any guess as to the age of this flute? It has a fully lined head w...
