Re: Busker or Loud whistle recommendations?
The term "small bore" for Susato whistles only refers to the the relative bore sizes in the Susato range. ie. it's not called "small" in relation to other manufacturer's whistles or what you or I might or might not call a "small bore." The "small bore" Susato ...

Re: "as new" all metal Generation Bflat from Ebay.
Ah, yes, I had meant to post the link to the Ebay listing last night ... but I forgot because I was tired and I went to bed :-D Anyway, you were perfectly capable of finding it for yourself, and good on the seller for posting from Dundalk. Mine has "improved" over the last day. I've got mo...

Re: "as new" all metal Generation Bflat from Ebay.
I'm guessing that this is from sometime in the 1950s. The label, lack of lead plug and the engraved ring that seem to be on much older Generation whistles seem to point to to the 1950s?

"as new" all metal Generation Bflat from Ebay.
I just bought an old all-metal "as new" Generation B flat whistle on Ebay. It was one of a batch, and there are a couple more to be sold on the Ebay listing. Fortunately I wasn't really interested in a new B flat as such. I've played and loved Generation whistles all my life and seeing thi...

It needs some ventilation or you will risk some mouldy whistles.

Re: A quiet practice whistle
The Shush whistle always comes up in the context of quiet whistles. I have no idea if it's any good. It does involve buying from the UK so you'll be hit with Brexit advantages (i.e. an import tax bill). If you bought a Shush whistle then the import duty into Ireland (like in the rest of the EU) wou...

Re: Comparing Killarney, Lir & Wild Irish High Ds
All I know is avoid all these bad factory lookalikes. The quality isnt there. To my knowledge Killarney is handmade. If it is 'factory' made or partially mass produced by some shop, its at least made well with high quality control. Which is good enough. No reason to support these bad cash grab fact...

Re: Does anyone recognize this vintage whistle?
Is there information out there about the history of the Generation whistles and how they went from that old style to the modern plastic head versions? Their website implies they didn't really start until the 60s. Clearly, the Generation whistle is much older than that, but I was having trouble find...

Re: A sad Lir whistle story
On the earlier thread, the link I posted above, I linked to relevant EU Consumer rights information, which may be of use. Your rights with regards to refunds and returns are listed here . A clarification ... that article starts with the words "What happens if you changed your mind about someth...

Re: A sad Lir whistle story
If you are returning faulty goods for a refund or replacement, then the company must bear the cost. This is EU law, you can look it up. They must either pick up the item, send you something like a pre-paid posting label or, if you agree, arrange to reimburse you any costs. If, as you say, they have ...

Re: Best High-End Whistles these days?
And really, why would it when $65 or so will get you a Cillian O’Briain Improved whistle? 35 euro, last time I looked. But you will have to add p&p where you are. I got one when they were 25 and got me a spare one for the same price from a forum member. They are all I need for a D really, the S...

Re: Oldest wooden flute in Europe... so far.
On my tiny Generation G whistle I can get eight distinct notes only ever uncovering the bottom hole. Even four or six notes are rather more than "it's only get one hole so it can only make two notes." I doubt if anyone knows or could know whether that flute was used for music, but it's not...

Re: What is this Tune Name?
I have no idea what it is but it isn't rocket science, just get it down as a Gan Ainm for now(or call it Blue Monday for the time being, for the day that's in it). it's simple enough. This quick jot will get you started or give you something to plug into a tune search: GF|EB ~B2 cBAc| BAGB AGFG|~E3...
