The interesting thing is this comparison to different language, and also the issue of playing the same piece of music on very different instruments. The list of what I have played is quite long, and started with the piano. I believe that there is a limit to how many instruments one can be ACTIVELY H...

Sounds like you've been up to some serious MacGyvering. Can you also plug the hole in the Ozone if we give you Duct tape, and angry monkey, hot glue and Play-doh? :)

When you post pics, can you also post some sound files of it?

I agree with most everything in the first review mentioned above. The piping is great and the trad tunes are really done nicely. The pipes sound great on this album too, from a recording standpoint and from a playing standpoint. My only complaint is the 'bluesy' feel he tries for on at least one tun...

Hey guys The above ranking of which design causes the least disruption of waves is correct based on theory. Straight is best, curved is a little worse and right angle bends worse than that. Without getting too far into acoustic theory, sound doesn't like to make hard turns. It causes a change in the...

For Ir Trad outside of piping, I have enjoyed Cherish the Ladies. And of course (although piping is certainly a big part) The Chieftains. I also really like Sean Tyrrell and Mary Black. For other music, my likes read more like a Music Library catalogue listing than anything else. Highlights would in...

I have often found that Sinead O'Connor's voice has the ability to vary from an open tone to a closed tone from note to note through a passage. And she has many textures to her voice as well.

I think her tone would make for a very expressive chanter.

Snoogie My alter-ego is going through a similar experience right now waiting for a custom made electric bass. It is due in about a week. So I am getting a little preview of what that will be like. Somehow, though, I think the first set of pipes will be much more intense. I have basses that I can pla...

I've never even played the instrument yet...... I can't stop hearing it in my head. When I listen to it, I don't hear it with my ears but with every fiber of my being. I am acomplished on many instruments. I could be well and happy focusing on them. But no. I heard the uilleann pipes. Now I have to ...

When I started as a young musician, it was on the piano... :sniffle: Then I took up the saxophone... :really: Then I got a little smarter (and cooler) and started playing bass, even went to college to study it... 8) Then I heard ITM... Then I heard pipes... :D Then I decided to le...

[quote="Calum"] As for drones and regs, I think everyone just wants something that's clear; bass baritone and tenor works for me, even if none of them are actually what classical musicians would describe as bass/bari/tenor. I agree with the clarity of the terms bass/baritone/tenor to descr...

Feedback on Makers

Greetings all. The continuous research into makers never ends. Watching this board (I contributed twice - I'm not lurking, am I?) I have gleaned useful info from many of you on a great number of makers. Many searches into old posts have also yielded great bits of info. But I would like to gather som...

Roger, Yes, the resonator will contribute to directing sound. Another quick technical note... lower frequencies become harder to direct. As frequency gets higher, it is more directinal and begins to behave more like light. Since the effects of the resonator are directly applied to the higher frequen...

The orignial question put forward a couple of thoughts about what the resonator is doing and how it is changing the sound. Here are some bits of information about resonance in a chamber. I would like to mention that these ntoes are made without any knowledge to pipemaking (or playing). I am very ver...
