Re: Bnat recommendation please
Syn whistles are available in the key of B, either as a stand alone whistle or in combinations with other key bodies to suit the same head. They can usually be in the mail the next working day.

Gidgee (Acacia cambagei) aka the stinking wattle? :tomato: 'This here is the wattle, the emblem of our land. You can stick it in a bottle or hold it your hand..' What does gidgee smell like? If you're wondering why there's a pungent gas aroma right around Alice Springs and central Australia at the ...

Re: Bagpipe Tunes On Whistle
I have an ancient 78 record called 'Imitation of a Bagpipe on a Tin Whistle'. The player addresses the drone question by humming while he plays the whistle.

Re: Drill Press or Milling Machine?
Another alternative might be to look for a second hand engravers pantograph. I use two of them, one just for windways and the other is a 3D model that mills finger holes. Milling is certainly a better option to drilling holes, especially in Aluminium, it produces a clean sided cut without the chatte...

Re: SYNning!
I'm afraid you seek in vain there Michael, yours is the only one I've made. Perhaps there are some out there made by Eric the Flutemaker. I found it a nice little whistle for doodling, just going up and down the scale produces some almost recognizable Arabic style riffs. How do you find the fingering?

Re: Whistle Naming Practices
For my own whistles, I use the terms high, mid and low. High whistles from Bb up, mid range A, G and F, and low below that. I also make a low low D. The terms tend to follow the dimensions of the tubes that determine the bores.

Re: Early/Sudden Onset of Arthritis of the Hands and/or Fing
I can sympathize with you about your trigger finger problems. At one stage I took to wearing splints on my fingers at night and while driving as a means of preventing the dreaded 'lock-up'. Operations are available but if you can put up with the condition for a while the symptoms do seem to alleviat...

Try a piece of material over the beak and airway on your existing stable of whistles.

The Low Low D project...
... is finally getting a move along with keys for the finger holes designed, fabricated and installed. My chief consideration in all this was to keep it simple; design, materials and construction to suit that constraint. The most important first choice was that of materials, the use of plumbing pipe...

Re: Whistle designations......
Forget that Alto and Soprano stuff, that's recorder talk and is quite happy in that context. We whistle players are simpler souls and High, Low and Low Low are easier for us to work with. I've always reckoned that these groups should follow simple alphabetical patterns; ie Low Low starts at A and ri...

Re: C Natural Blues
I know this thread is a few months old but I hope it's still okay to contribute! I'm considering buying a Syn high D whistle but having tried my friend's one, the C natural is EXTREMELY sharp. I asked the maker (Erle Bartlett) about it and he said it's a problem he hasn't yet managed to fix, but he...
