Re: Re.corder as a stepping stone to whistle for a learner?
Thanks, but I've tried that. Not quiet enough! Modern houses have thin walls, and late shift workers are vicious when riled. I basically need a sound proof box or something that can take headphones.

Re.corder as a stepping stone to whistle for a learner?
Hello, Does anyone have any experience using the re.corder? I realise this is a whistle forum (!) but my goal, as a lapsed learner needing a quiet way to practice, is simply to develop somehow, using something, so that on those rare occasions I can make some noise, I can make best use of the opportu...

Re: Imported a Warbl into the UK
Hello Skarp,
I would be interested to hear your thoughts on your WARBL (assuming you received it!).
With the financial carnage of the last few days, I'm currently wondering if I dithered too long, and have now lost my chance at getting one at a reasonable price.

Re: Is Warbl good for a beginner?
... you might pick up some bad habits since you don't need to adjust your breath the same way to bring the instrument in tune. Thanks for your reply. PB+J mentions that it's possible to adjust the amount of breath required. Do you think this feature could be used to reduce the chances of developing...

Is Warbl good for a beginner?
Hello. I'm a lapsed learner from way back. Life and stuff got in the way, and I put the whistle down and forgot about it. Now I'm back! One of the reasons I put the whistle down was because I live in a big house with lots of people and they all work hard and need quiet time to themselves, and I didn...

Re: Clarke Original D Tweak/Mods
I broke my Clarke  I straightened the sound blade. Just a little movement at first produced an enormous effect! I thought there was another whistler in the room with me, it was suddenly so loud! But I noticed that, while low D was suddenly much stronger and firmer, E was vibrating a lot. So I ...

Re: Happy Feadog Owner
I've been wondering which whistle I have... but even after all the pictures am still not sure! Mine is going on ten years old (it spent a long time forgotten after it was purchased in Cork) but looks most like the Mk IV pictured above. Has the IV been in production that long?

Still a newbie, and now in possession of a Clarke
First, a confession. I haven't been practising for about a month. I've been hibernating, instead. But I just started again! Second, a kindly soul gave me a Clarke Original tinwhistle for Christmas. It's this one: http://www.clarketinwhistle.com/original-tinwhistle with the tapering tube and the wood...

Re: Tutorial video which demonstrates scales
Hello again, thank you for the references and sorry for the huge delay in saying so! I had come across Ryan Dun's videos and thought him very good. Didn't realise he had lessons, as well. I've been slowly wading through Brother Steve's site, but have to limit my time there as I end up looking like t...

Tutorial video which demonstrates scales
Hello again. I am making slow progress with my practice and went looking for alternative ideas to those put forward in my Feadog-supplied guide book. I came across this video: Penny Whistle Lesson 1(Key of D) It begins with the basics: breathing, blowing, finger positions etc. then she demonstrates ...

Found a video: Down by the Salley Gardens
Hi folks, I was trawling youtube for whistle videos and came across this rendition of Down by the Salley Gardens, a song I've loved as a song , and lamented having no singing voice worthy of it, but now realise that I might be able to play it on this little tube thing! But my question is whether thi...

Re: E's blowing hard but E's not getting anywhere!
I've discovered that talking about yourself at great length on the internet really helps! I'm blowing a reasonably solid D
Soon I could be playing actual music! <maniacal laughter>
Run. Run now. And on your way, grab some industrial ear defenders. No one is safe!

Re: E's blowing hard but E's not getting anywhere!
Thanks for the advice and interest. I have achieved a new level of annoying: not only am I tormenting my own hound, I have now managed to provoke next doors dogs into howls of agony! Progress report: early indications of a D proved to be optimistic. What passes for that note still comes across as sl...
