Re: Susato C and B quality question
No problem! It's actually got a bit more of a playful chirp to it and a different character altogether than the S-series, so it's best to look at it as a completely different thing than the regular susato D's. I have an E body for it as well, and it is equally nice. Came across this VSB Susato on E...

Re: Large Bore High D.
Sorry, guess I wasn't clear enough in my post and actually made the same semantic mistake. As far as I know the bore of the whistle is the inner diameter of the tube used. You seem to be more interested in the external diameter as regards the feel of the whistle in hand. Here my, and others, sugges...

Re: Large Bore High D.
I have just invented the bore-less whistle. A radical concept where, turning conventional design on its head to defy the laws of physics, the whistle is turned inside-out so that what used to be the bore is now on the outside and therefore infinite. With no further need for holes since it's not goi...

It's all relativeFeadoggie wrote:Cheesewhiz! You had to catch that, didn't you? Hi, David.
Well, they do have a bore and holes. Right? Not to large, not too small. Just right. Goldilocks plays one, or so I've heard.

Not So Low, Low Whistle Key.
Hello There, After a couple of years with various High D's I took the plunge and tried my first Low D recently (a Kerry Optima) it felt VAST and despite being a Low D with a relatively 'easy' reach my tiny hands and slim fingers struggled to cover the holes and I've since parted with it. However I s...

Re: Whistle of the Month.
If the OAK is anything like the two I have you'll be very pleased with it. Thanks for the appraisal of the Jerry Freeman A (that will be added to my shopping list)

Re: Large Bore High D.
Perhaps you are still asking the wrong question. If all you are looking for is a larger bore tube, that still sounds softer or has a more moderate volume Sorry I thought I had said that? Does any other High D have a similar bore and hole size (RE: Chieftain), but has a friendlier volume and air req...

Re: Large Bore High D.
There have been several generations of Chieftain whistles over the last 25 years or so. Not sure which type you may have owned. The old style Chieftains I owned/played in the late 90's were not free blowing, IMO. They had a narrow-ish windway height and it took some effort to build enough air veloc...

Whistle of the Month.
This month has seen a number of new whistles added to my 'collection': 2 x OAK D - Excellent 2 x OAK C - Excellent (as good, perhaps slightly better than the D's) 3 x Generation Bb (Nickel) - The one I've played is very nice, especially the lower octave. 1 x Killarney D - Plays well, the head is bea...

Large Bore High D.
Hello There, I briefly owned a Chieftain High D, didn't care for it, shockingly loud and took a huge amount of air to reach the top end of the second octave. However this whistle did have two features I liked (and I've been unable to find with any other whistle) a much larger bore, and much larger h...

Re: Susato C and B quality question
May I ask, how much smaller is the bore of the VSB and does it match the volume of the S bore? It's a good bit narrower. It is quieter than the S-series, but still la good bit louder than a typical gen or similar. Thank you. After reading a number of 'Pro Susato' comments recently I'm starting to t...

Re: Help! Ordered a Clarke Original D, but....
The Shaw High D I owned briefly also had the block protruding slightly (not as much as this) However it did seem to play okay but I found the block became rather soggy and unpleasant after a while.

Re: Susato C and B quality question
I've commented this on a number of susato threads, but I think it might be worth repeating- People often say the susato D whistle are "shrill", but it's worth keeping in mind that they make both a "small bore" series and a "very small bore" series D whistle. The very s...
