Re: Examples of the whistle NOT in Irish music
I was asked by a teacher at my old school to play quick improv solos on my high D whistle for the Bruce Springsteen song Atlantic City, so here's a link to the video of that....I was lukewarm about how the whistle mixed in with the music but the teacher (who was singing) seemed happy with it! https:...

Re: Learning to play Uilleanns
Hi all, Thank you for all the responses, they are much appreciated. Sorry I haven't responded earlier as I haven't checked on this since I posted it. Thanks for the advice on everything - a lot to look over and think about. Also I'll try to only call them Uilleann pipes in the future! Luckily, my fr...

Re: Classical music on Irish flute
Sorry for being vague/incorrect.
In response to Radcliff, the wooden system flute is what I meant! That video of Chris Norman and Highlands (and now, Brian Berryman) is all that I've been able to find, but if anyone knows of any others, it would be much appreciated!

Classical music on Irish flute
Hi all, I play classical piano in addition to flute and other Celtic instruments, so I am very into classical music. I was wondering if anyone knows of any CDs with classical music played on the Irish flute or artists who are known to play a lot of classical music. I love the classical music Chris N...

Learning to play Uilleanns
How much of a transition would it be, if I am motivated, have a good work ethic, and can afford to buy a set, to become adept at playing the Uilleann pipes? I would already be familiar with the bellows and general pressure on the reeds (although I know that the reeds are a lot more fickle in Uillean...

Re: Pictures of Your Pipes
Here are my beautiful Highland pipes, made by Michael MacHarg. They are made out of blackwood, moose antler, and nickel engraved by Roddy MacLellan and are based off of a Lawrie design. I play them with a Bb MacHarg chanter, a sheepskin bag, and Kinnairds in the drones. I much prefer the smooth look...
