FS: Alba Low D, Dixon Trad G

Alba Low D: Asking $170. Purchased new in 2014 I LOVE the sound of this whistle, and don’t really want to part with it, BUT my hands are ridiculously small, so they get sore after maybe only 30 mins of playing. :( It’s in great shape and sounds amazing. There are a few small scratches that I’ll glad...

Re: Where do people go to talk strings?

cat- Do you know about the Virtual Harp Circle and/or Wire Harp lists on yahoo? Those--along with the Celtic Harp group on Facebook-- are where I go to talk harps. Several clarsach players contribute, and all 3 groups are friendly (a lovely change after I was in a couple other forums that were... we...

Re: Low G recommendations

I own the brass Dixon Trad and the DX007G. I like the brass a lot better than the ABS--in fact, I never meant to buy the ABS but it was shipped to me instead of the brass by accident, and I decided to just keep it. Later when I bought a Trad, I was kicking myself for not exchanging for it right away...

Re: Low g whistle for small hands

I have very small hands, and have no trouble reaching any low g I've tried. I have a Dixon trad and I really like it. I hope you find the one(s) you like!

Re: Buying a low whistle

I found this while searching for a Dixon trad A. It seems that a trad low D might be an option here:

Re: Dixon Trad Alto G strange overtones

I have the Dixon Alto G in plastic (ordered the Trad from an AmazonUK seller, got this one, decided to just keep it) and it is very easy to overblow. I find I have to be very careful when playing to not get overtones and squeaks while playing, and that's different than ANY of my other whistles--incl...

Re: THAT'S not a whistle!

Haha! I saw the video yesterday, when my husband insisted I check it out (we like Nick Offerman and have lived in Scotland, so it was totally appropriate :D ) The first thing I said was, "Ahhh, Bonnie Scotl... THAT'S NOT A WHISTLE!!" So funny to see this here today.

Re: Howard, Merlin, Alba, Shearwater.

I have an Alba vibe low d. It takes a lot of air, but I played flute for years so I'm OK with that. It is big and loud and I love it. All that being said, though, I think I should have started with a Dixon low d as it has a much easier reach and lower air requirements.

Re: Newbie with low D whistle/flute questions...

I think you should go for the low D, if that's what you really want to do. I wanted to play low whistles as soon as I began. I did start with the high D for ease of fingerings and all (I still play it with some frequency, too), but quickly acquired a low G to help transition to a low D. I am glad I ...

Re: Tony Dixon one piece tapered bore low d whistle?

Hi jgalbraith, I'm new to the whistle world, too, and also like mezzos and low whistles. I think the Dixon would be a great low d for a newbie (and beyond--I mean, it's a good quality, relatively inexpensive whistle!). I have a couple Dixons that I'm quite satisfied with, though I don't own the low ...

Re: Newbie

Nurse Froggy,
I play an Alba low D, which is aluminum, and there is no taste. It took me a couple days to be able to cover the holes properly (I have very small hands) but I really love this whistle! Good luck in your low whistle choosing. :)

Re: 2014 - ROLL CALL for C&F Whistlers & Learners

Hi everyone, I've done a lot of "lurking" on the forums here (quite helpful to this newbie!), but I think this is my first actual post. Haha! I'm from the US, but living in Scotland for now while my husband does post-grad studies. It's a wonderful traditional music adventure for me! I've b...
