7 hole whistle concept

for higher pitched whistles like alto G and higher.
Add 7th hole for bottom pinky, so it can play 3 semitones lower than previous tonic.
IE on a G whistle, the new 7th hole plays E

Seems very useful, has this been done before?

Question about olwell waiting list

Been on the waiting list just over one year at this stage. I sent a couple emails inquiring about things and they have gone un-replied. Seems odd, anyone else getting no replies back? Not trying to be pushy or anything as I understand the wait is long and well-worth every minute. The email I've been...

Soft or hard cases? Do you disassemble or not?

Just wondering about how people treat their wooden instruments. I'm relatively new to flutes so I was wondering if it would be better to separate the flute into it's pieces, or have it all connected. Specifically I'm talking about Tenor Recorders and Bass Recorders. A hard case would be required if ...

Re: Any experienced PVC flute makers out there?

How "similar" are we talking here? Do you want it fully chromatic, or would you be happy with diatonic in C, with the fork-fingered F, and maybe a couple of cross-fingered sharps? Without the double holes on the bottom two notes? Two octaves only? I'm working on some whistle design softwa...

Any experienced PVC flute makers out there?

Looking for someone who has experience in making custom PVC flutes. I'm looking to make a notch-blown flute that has fingering similar to the (baroque) recorder. In any key. I am prepared to pay the price to make this worth your while. Thanks, please PM me.

Re: Chinese Dizi is the same thing as an Irish flute!

Bawu is also played vertically. Hulusi has the drone notes but its a bit more decorative. I strongly suggest a Bawu over a hulusi because bawu has much more comfortable fingering holes and there isnt that annoying gourd. But hey, its only $10 for hulusi, so just get both..

Re: Chinese Dizi is the same thing as an Irish flute!

Yes, the dizi and xiao are the main flutes from China, and actually where the irish flute evolved from. Almost everyone back in the day played the dizi, and only a few plays the xiao since the difficulty is a magnitude higher due to the notch blown style. However, ive come to love the sound of the x...

Chinese Dizi is the same thing as an Irish flute!

I showed my teacher the tin whistle I got from ebay and he said that the Chinese Dizi (traverse bamboo flute) with 6 holes has the same fingering chart as that. If I were you guys, I would try to get a Dizi and see how that sounds. It's got a vibrating membrane that amplifies the volume. Just an FYI...
