Re: Quena/Whistle

You might consider looking at Eric the Flutemakers website. I have some bamboo flutes and a quenacho flute made by Eric, and they have that distinctive bamboo sound. He also makes whistles now, so I’d expect they may have a similar sound since they are also bamboo...I believe.
Just a thought.

Re: Learning new tunes...how many at a time?

I wanted to thank everyone for the contributions to this thread thus far. It's been interesting and very helpful to me to read the about the different tactics, methods, and numbers of tunes whistlers take on at once. I'd like to agreed with DrPhill's concept that you are never DONE learning a tune. ...

Re: Other key whistles for a beginner?

I'm a beginner and I was drawn to the sound of a C whistle. I already had a few D whistles, and frankly got the C because of this one particular tune I wanted to learn that sounds great in this key. I find myself playing and practicing between all my whistles. I am learning TI tunes, but I like to p...

David O'Brien Rover in Blackwood- photos and thoughts

http://imageshack.us/a/img163/7057/89715776.jpg I've spent many hours reading, searching and exploring this forum. When I first got interested in the Tin Whistle I immediately was drawn to the wooden variety. Exploring the wooden options, I found the David O'Brien Rover Whistles to be very interest...

Re: Learning new tunes...how many at a time?

Great replies! Thank you, this helps a lot. Even the humorous responses. So, do I have to only play one tune at a time? What if I stick 3 whistles in my mouth at the same time, play the two outer whistles with the base of my fingers, leaving the tips of my fingers to play the middle one? One ...

Learning new tunes...how many at a time?

I'm curious about how many tunes should one be "working on" at the same time? I realize this is a very subjective question, but I"m curious what long time players usually do? Do you pick out a few new tunes and concentrate on mastering them, then once mastered move on to a new tune? O...

Since I got my Mack Hoover telescoping D whistle—with a pocket clip—my life has changed. Now when I head to a session I put on my tuxedo, slip in a pocket protector and my Mack Hoover telescoping D whistle—with a pocket clip—, get into my Aston Martin and drive to the session. I saunter in, order a...

Re: Mack Hoover Telescoping C and D- sharing greatness

I've received a few PM's on where you find these, how much, etc. Steve Bliven's post with the original link to the telescoping whistles is where I first saw them. Mack does not have the telescoping whistles on his site yet. The original telescoping post led me to Mack's website. From there, I sent h...

Re: Where do you practise?

Mack Hoover's quiet whistles solved a lot of my "where to practice" problems. The whistles have a terrific volume level and my family has definitely noticed the difference. I did a review of my whistles at the link below.

Re: Here's where I am. How do I get better?

I am in a similar situation. I went ahead and signed up for online instruction at http://blaynechastain.com/i-teach/home I must say that I've enjoyed the lessons. Blayne has compiled a very comprehensive course in the Irish Whistle and Irish Flute. The lessons are mostly videos, he plays the tunes a...

Mack Hoover Telescoping C and D- sharing greatness

http://imageshack.us/a/img841/7279/photo3qnx.jpg So this is my very first post to this forum! This is simply a byproduct of how thorough this forum really is- every time I had a question it was usually already asked and answered. So, no need for me to post anything. Like many of you, I caught the '...
