Re: low whistle in G
Another plug for jerry -- the freeman g and a are some of my favorite whistles. These are tweaked gen B heads on piping of jerry's own make, and are a pleasure to play and sound lovely. Also recommend the alba g -- takes a little more air in the upper register but has a deep, rich sound and is loude...

Re: Seeking Feedback on Alba Low G
I have an alba low g, probably 8-9 years old, and I quite like it -- very even, mellow, warm sound with a lot of volume, and I had a newer alba high d with similar characteristics (still kicking myself for selling it); that is only a sample size of 2, but stacey is an experienced maker and I wouldn'...

Re: Generation Bb vs Dixon Trad Alto Bb
I agree with Mr. Gumby -- I really don't like dixons generally, though I liked the dixon conical plastic low d enough to hang onto it. I also agree with the thought that which whistles you like is a matter of personal taste. For me, I quite enjoy generations, tweaked or otherwise, and I have no prob...

Re: CP: Whorfin Whistles
I have two of Charlie's whistles and they are steals for the amount of whistle (bang) you get for the buck -- they have a very pleasant and very sweet second octave, a nice amount of dirt/chiff in the first octave, and they are lovely. I look forward to his C whistle!

Re: Tony Dixon solid Brass High D?
My experience with a TD solid brass D is similar to that of SaintNinian -- I found this to be a loud whistle (maybe +75-100% of a gen D?) and one of the heaviest whistles I've played. I also had some tuning issues in both octaves and that were particularly pronounced in the second octave, which was ...

Another plug for freeman's mellow dog -- a great whistle for a great price.

Re: Does this whistle exist?
I have two Mellow Dog Ds and both fit the bill -- the volume might be slightly more than a Gen, but to my mind the Mellow Dog is the standard for a warm chiffy tone in a whistle, which I equate with your "husky" request. There's not a lot of back pressure (and the whistle takes a bit more ...

Re: Best hard-blowing high D whisle for $100
I'll add Impempe whistles out of South Africa to the discussion. I have had a Bb and high D and both would fit your request, and have a lovely tone, although to my ear they are a little quieter than some other whistles I have/have had. I'll second the discussion re Alba (have a G and had a high D) a...

Re: Kerry Optima Review
Okay, I know there are plenty of streams on here about the Optima..... but I wanted to start one on the basis of a pure review without diving into muddied waters about price ranges, comparisons to other whistles, and/or tangents about what notable player used to play what whistle and subjective opi...

Re: She Moved Through the Fair
More info on thesession.org Best wishes. Steve One of the posters there states as if a fact that the phrase "lack of kind" meant lack of worldly goods and then cited the phrase "payment in kind" to illustrate. In my opinion, that makes two mistakes ... Hmmm, I always thought tha...

Re: CP: Whorfin Whistles
Can you help me understand the volume a little more? I'm needing to replace a missing Abell D and play in a relatively big act and need enough sound to carry over guitar, drum, bass, and bouzouki. I'm currently using my backup whistle which is an old Water Weasel, and that cuts through nicely. Will...

Re: CP: Whorfin Whistles
I bought two Whorfin whistles earlier in the summer from Charlie (cambodian rosewood and a pear) and have to chime in -- beautiful whistles with nice finish work, tuning was spot-on, good balanced volume between octaves, great customer service, and the pear has the sweetest second octave I've played...

Re: Has Chiff and Fipple become a SH whistles Sales site?
Follow-up joke. Guy walks into a Roman bar and holds up two fingers and says, "I'll have five beers." Dale, don't change anything -- this site is perfect just the way it is in my opinion. Thanks to the moderators for work well done. And I think there are still new whistlemakers around wort...
