Search in the flute forum for "What does coccus wood look like?" for a photo of some of them. I knew I had done something with the photos he had send me. Here is a selection of Andrew's flutes. Obviously I have no idea which of these he would be willing to sell, but it gives you an idea o...

I played a good number of Andrew's flutes some time ago - and there are some excellent flutes in his collection. It is worth noting that when Andrew gets any repairs carried out, they are always done by Chris Wilkes. He has very detailed pictures of all his flutes which I am sure he would be willing...

An Gaoth Aduaidh/The North Wind was released on the tenth anniversary of the Frankie Kennedy Winter School as a tribute to Frankie. There are some players on it who were influences on or contemporaries of Frankie (e.g. Gary Hastings, Tara Diamond, Paul O'Shaugnessy), and others who never met Franki...

I bought a tape years ago called "Fluters of Old Erin", which had recordings of McKenna & others. It might be worth searching to see if it has been brought out on CD.

Some may not like it because of all the modern electrified music but holy smokes that guy can play the flute. I can take or leave the "funky" stuff, but one of the best gigs I ever attended was just McGoldrick, Dezi Donnelly and Tim Edey. Very traditional, although with plenty of the tune...

Did this flute sell? It seemed like a great price for anyone looking for a keyed flute.

Claus, do you have a name for that tune - it's really unusual, but a great tune. That's an outstanding tone that you are getting on the flute as well, are you sure you don't want to keep it? :)

Re: Nice Old 8 Key Available before eBaying it

For anyone interested in a nice solid antique 8key flute, before I put it up to eBay in a week or so. I have $1,200 into it and that's all I'm asking for it here. The eBay reserve will be $1,500. This seems to be a very reasonable deal for anyone looking for a fully keyed flute right now - I am ama...

Good job, that looks fantastic. What was the most demanding part? I heard an interview with Sam Murray where he said that the basic craftwork involved in making a flute, turning & silverwork etc, was reasonably demanding. He reckoned that the most difficult part of the job was to persuade the th...

Are there any/many playing Irish traditional music that actually use an R&R flute as a regular working flute as opposed to maybe owning one as a collectible/nice to have instrument? Not necessarily "name" players as you put it, but I know of four players, off the top of my head, who u...

Personally, I would tap (strike) after the first A and cut after the second one - I think that sequence fits in better to the flow of a jig. I would generally strike between the 2nd & 3rd notes of a 3-note sequence in a jig. Tripping Up The Stairs springs to mind: fa(tap)a gb(tap)b etc.... In th...

(Lest anyone be offended, I've lived with a fair amount of Alzheimer's in my family, and I know it's anything but funny -- which is maybe why I'm trying to have a good time with the concept now!) I was deeply offended, but then, strangely, I forgot why I was offended.....................nurse, is i...
