Re: Embouchure help: I'm playing too flat
When I first started playing flute I played flat for almost the first year or so. I had the head pushed all the way in and even then I was still a tiny bit flat. As my embouchure got better and my tone became stronger, I had to pull out the head more and more over time, and now I have a tendency to ...

Re: Who makes a Delrin Piccolo keyless in D?
I didn’t see any delrin on the Aebi site, though he does offer some kind of non-wood material option. He made some delrin flutes in the past and he offers far more options than what's listed on his website. One material he uses is Juma (a resin based material) which, as far as I can tell, has all t...

Re: Who makes a Delrin Piccolo keyless in D?
Hammy Hamilton seems to make (or no longer makes) a piccolo in D in Delrin, but I'm not finding many hits out there for keyless D's in delrin. Musique Morneaux makes a lovely model but alas not in Delrin. Peeler might make one. Who am I missing that makes a *good* keyless piccolo in delrin? Terry M...

Re: To polish or not to polish
It would make little difference to me personally, but I would prefer that an instrument not be polished, because some polishes, like Brasso, contain compounds that will make the patina come back more aggressively and in an uglier way. I also don’t want residues from these polishes on whistles I buy,...

Re: Playing with backing track
Okay, it looks like it only has a headphone port.
In that case, you should be able to play your backing track on a device, and then plug the headphone/speaker output of that device into the second 1/4” input on your recording device.
I believe an inexpensive adapter should be all you need.

Re: Playing with backing track
My zoom recorder has an in-put where I can use two large Jacks going into it, and one small in the other end. This may be a "beginners question" :) but is that the same as an aux-in port? It also has a mode where I can use 4 channels at one time. The irig you mention seems like a good con...

Re: Playing with backing track
Does the zoom recorder have an aux-in port? If so, just plugging the source of the backing track into that should do it. Alternatively, for smartphone recording you could get something like an iRig. Some of their models have that port. You can plug your zoom recorder into that along with your backin...

Re: Playing with backing track
I’m sure there are several ways to do this, but I can explain how I’d do this with the things I have on hand, if I were wanting to do so. I have an EQ pedal with an Aux-in port and headphone port. This makes it very simple. Microphone goes into mic-preamp, and mic preamp goes into the pedal, and the...

Re: Hand-carved flute is not playing
If you haven’t played flute before, it can be hard to even get a tone out of a well made flute initially. Not being able to play flute complicates the process of building one, because you won’t be able to make good adjustments. Plus, you won’t be able to know which errors are from the instrument and...

Re: Looking to try a low whistle
Whistle preference is such a subjective matter that it’s difficult to recommend specific whistles, but the two I mentioned are both decent and readily available starting points for one who wants to keep it as inexpensive as possible but still have an instrument that is nice to play. If you like the ...

Re: Looking to try a low whistle
The price doesn’t really have anything to do with whether or not it requires piper’s grip (perhaps I misread that sentence?). In any case, piper’s grip makes things easier, not harder. It’s normal for such a thing to feel unfamiliar and weird at first, but simply playing up and down the scale that w...

Re: Goldie Narrow Bore Low D
Does anyone know how Colin achieves his easy/medium/hard backpressure adjustments with his whistles? I would like to add just a bit more backpressure to mine, but the adjustments I've made always end up changing the tone or playing characteristics negatively. It’s been a number of years since I’ve ...
