WTT ( GHB + SSP) for Uilleann Pipe Drones

Hi, I used to play the Great Highland Bagpipe, but by now I am only playing uilleann pipe and flute. I want to upgrade my practice set to a half set, therefore I would like to swap my highland pipes for a set of drones or a half set! The highland pipe is an RT Shepherd S3 blackwood pipe with a poly ...

Re: New to Irish flute: What to buy?

jeeeeesus,
does nobody use the search function or even looks through the last dozen or so discussions?
I think its kinda disrespectful to the community to put such little effort in, before starting a discussion.
Basically the same question is asked every month or two.

contemporary recordings of players with a more closed style?

Hi, can someone suggest me some contemporary recordings of players with a more closed and less wild style? I got the impression that the most younger pipers play in quiet wild and open style therefore it would be especially nice to listen to some younger or at least contemporary players with a diffe...

Re: Matt Molloy fast switch between b-d-a-d

Hmmm, do we really believe they played it at that speed? Why would you? I am not sure, how serious you are with that comment :D (I might make a complete fool out of myself with the following...) I was also wondering if it is possible that the recording is a bit too fast? Isn't the pitch really high...

Matt Molloy fast switch between b-d-a-d

Hi, could you help me out with Matt Molloy's playing in this record? At the C-part of Limerick Lasses is a really tricky bar with the run of b-d-a-d / b-d-a-d Does Matt Molloy play all of this notes? Do you think he plays the d as 0xxx xxx or xxx xxx in this phrase? Or does he maybe even do global s...

Re: Expand repertoire or concentrate on triplets?

thanks for the suggestions! I will more deliberately divide my practice sessions in repertoire and technique learning! I have been playing the flute for some years. I once heard a really good piper say, that he sometimes notices that pipers who come from a flute background play the pipes like a flut...

Expand repertoire or concentrate on triplets?

Hi, I am more or less seriously learning the pipes for half a year of 3/4 of a year now and still have problems with my triplets (Garret Harrys jig in Heather Clarks tutor still isn't where it should be...). A couple of other tunes are going well, although playing the g-f-e triplet is often the most...

Re: Does your M&E flute have an M&E logo stamped on it?

My M&E flute (bought in 2012 directly from the maker) has no logo stamped on it. A friend of mine got one a couple of month ago and it has some logo stamped on it. So there seem to be some minor changes made over the years. Beside this anecdote: I think it is extremely unlikely, someone would bu...

Re: Ellis Ebonite Pratten

In my opinion the rougher finish of the M&E flutes is no argument that they are not built by Michael himself. It probably is the reason why they are so low priced. Nobody can expect a keyed flute for 580 Euro to have the same finish as an instrument that costs 4 or 6 times as much. But I think i...

Re: Ellis Ebonite Pratten

Does someone have more proof that the M&E flutes are made in the middle east? I think it is not fair giving such a heavy statement without any further proof or explanation. On the other hand, I think it wouldn't really matter if it was made in Pakistan or so -considering the over all playability...

Re: To tongue or not to tongue

I am nearly 100% sure, that even Matt Molloy uses tonguing (or at least glotal stops) sometimes. Yes, but isn't this the root of the question? The majority of traditional Irish flute players do not use tonguing, and instead they use glotal stops... sry, mad bad. I understood the question wrong.

Experience with flutes made by this music shop?

Hi, I just saw a post on thesession.org made by a music shop, advertising his/her flutes:

http://www.muzikhausberlin.de/flote.html
https://thesession.org/discussions/43868?

Does someone know anything about them? The prices are remarkable low and the product information is a bit odd
