Re: Sending chanter from USA to Europe - 2 questions

I am a bit late with my reply, but thank you for all the comments! It helps a lot. First, I wish a happy new year to everyone. Another option (if you have the time and can find a cheap flight) would be to deliver it yourself and use the shipping cost and EU duties as a holiday discount  I ...

Sending chanter from USA to Europe - 2 questions

Anyone having several experiences about sending chanters from the USA to Europe? I need to figure out what to choose: UPS, USPS, DHL, or something else? The friendly price is, of course, very welcome, but most importantly, the package should be fully insured for about $2500, with tracking available ...

Thanks for suggestion. I just wish he would offer a version without leather cover on the wood and nickel or stainless instead of brass. But good point. He does make a smaller one too.

Re: Bellows style with no need for seasoning ever

I own a Mark donohoe bellows for years now and it is totally maintenance free and as air tight as a puffer fishes asshole.   I actually seen some of his gussets before being fixed to boards.. They are coated internally with a synthetic polymerized rubber which is light and stays fle...

Re: Bellows style with no need for seasoning ever

Uilleann pipes bellows usually don’t need seasoning, if you use the right type of leather. I get that. I used to have a set with single layer and it leaked through the skin as it was too porous. Two layers of proper skin glued together is the answer. I have been using a set of bellows, a lot, since...

Bellows style with no need for seasoning ever

Anyone knows who (besides the Michael Dow, if anyone) is making bellows in the way so they never need any liquid inside to be airtight (including the time they are made)?
Just double layer gusset, glue and tacks/nails. Thanks!

I forgot to ask, anyone knows if Derrick Gleeson can make same metal hinged bellows as Geoff Wooff? Thanks again

Thanks for info. I saw few photos - they are gorgeous. I read somewhere that he makes them in union style and a bit smaller. Can they support full D set or better for flat sets?

Re: Bellows, Bellows, Bellows

...where to start. I am very thankful for all the response!... to JR - in my case the dead movement was not the due to inefficient valves (the repair from maker didn't help) - it was just the fact that gusset shape was not the best combo with clappers shape, IMHO... to rorybbellows - nice photo Ror...

Bellows, Bellows, Bellows

Probably most people search for the holy grail chanters, but in my case thats the bellows. I had chance to own 4 different bellows in the past and all of them had at least one of the next issues: - inefficient (designed with dead moment, so clappers move several cm before starting to push the air ou...

Re: Chanter CARE, Humidity and Receiving chanter "in the Hol

Thanks PJ and Mr. Gumby for your help The wood on the chanter (and drones, regs and mainstock) will shrink in winter and swell in summer. Not much to do with that except add a little binding in winter to stop ferrules from falling off, and removing extra binding in summer to prevent parts which shou...

Chanter CARE, Humidity and Receiving chanter "in the Hold"

Hello, I am curious how you can take a very good care for chanter if you live in a place where in winter months it is too dry – or where humidity can move in one day from low to high. Do you just keep the chanter in instrument case with some humidity device, or the best is to use humidifier (or fan ...

They are probably Goretex material, which I once tried and I had mixed feelings. I would prefer Vinyl bag.

Thanks
