Re: maximising your earnings from piping.

I would say - GO for IT. If Davy Spillane and John Mcsherry succeed, why you would not. I gues the basic is to possess that same grand musicality and passion and a few more things :) I was thinking of this same scenario for myself, but I think, mybe it would be a bit more realistic or easier to feed...

Kelleher bags - which shape

As they offer O'Briain and Froment bag shape, I wanted to ask which feels better for D practice set. I see the O'Briain shape (which I like the look) is quite wider than Froment shape. Anyone found it to big and prefered the Froment for easier control?

Wish you a happy Easter, Cheers

Re: Pictures of Your Pipes

[quote="ausdag"]Here's a chanter I made from PNG Ebony

Very nice result, ausdag !!! Brass & Papua New Guinea look perfect match. Where does this wood come from - which supplier? Are tonal results & harmonics similar to black ebony?

Thanks

"Ready-to-use" wood for Pipemaking?

Hello, I was just wondering if there is such a thing as "Ready-to-use wood" in Pipemaking world? What I mean, is to be able to buy some "dry" blanks for chanters, give them few weeks for "settle down" to the humidity of workshop and then make a chanter from start to fin...

I gues I missed original comment, mybe better so :)

Anyway, Thanks for replies & PM's. It looks both, Ray Sloan & Martin Preshaw make good D chanters, so it's just matter of preference & good reeds. Cheers

D chanter: Ray SLOAN / Martin Preshaw

Hello, Thinking of D chanter by 1 of them, but can't try them before. Anyone with experience of playing both - I would need some pros & cons. I heard good things about Preshaw D's, but there is not much about Ray Sloan, except that he was legend while he was making Northumbrian pipes. They both ...

Re: Typical ROWSOME makers?

If you want to sound like Paddy Moloney, there's only one thing for it. Play like he does. Yes, thats the truth. I understand that Playing style + knowing to make good reeds are 2 most important things to consider. Paddy plays at least 3 different Rowsome sets (and possibly has a few extra Rowsome ...

Re: HOLLY vs BOXWOOD tone???

Come on Guys - you love to make jokes 8) You knew what I mean. Holly, not Holy - sorry for small mistake :) I get the impression (not just from this post ) that there's an over expectation on what control the type of wood has on the tone of the instrument. RORY So you suggest it is only coincidence ...
