Re: Whistle intonation issue

Hmm. The longer I look at the photos of your Impempe, the more it seems to me that you may have the body on backwards. Is it possible to take the two pieces apart and put the other end of the body onto the tuning slide? The reason I'm suspecting that the tube's on backwards is that on nearly every w...

Re: Whistle intonation issue

I have a couple of things to try. One thing to do would be to contact the maker. I've heard of makers that will take a whistle back and fix it for the price of shipping, or at least offer you some experienced advice. I've never personally dealt with Impempe, so YMMV. Another thing to check is whethe...

Sorry to break it to you crookedtune, but if you and this other bore are truly parallel, you'll never meet.

Re: F natural on a D whistle

I agree with MTGuru. Second octave F using XXX OXX is nice if you can get it. When I was designing my homemade low D, I kept fiddling with hole sizes until XXX OXX played in tune. I was also aiming for good G#s and C naturals in both octaves. Maybe it would be helpful if we could mention which comme...

Re: 1 million euro babe

Very impressive video! This is the first fipple-mouthpiece for a Boehm flute I've ever heard of that seems to play correct octaves. The one I made myself certainly didn't.

I'm excited about your new product! So how much do they cost? Not one million euro, I hope...

Re: How much off tune is in tune? ;)

Hans: The issue of the two varieties of JI B, 22 cents apart, is something that I've encountered myself in both the areas of whistle building and learning the uilleann pipe. On the pipes, generally I tune the low B to the -16 cents pitch, making a just third over the G and a just sixth over the dron...

Re: ANNOUNCING: Freeman tweaked Enat and Bnat Generations ...

Very exciting news, this!

So did you work up or down? What I mean is, did you make the B out of a Bb or a C? And did you make the E out of an Eb or an F?

I'm glad to hear that you're recovering well.

Re: To thumbhole or not to thumbhole - that is the question!

I've never felt any particular need, in terms of ease of fingering, for a thumbhole in preference to oxx ooo. I am somewhat persnickety about intonation, and so I use whatever fingering for C natural gives the best tuning. On my homemade low D, that's oxx ooo, by design. On my Freeman Gen D (an exce...

Re: CrossFingering or not to CrossFingering, that is the question

[Thread revival - Mod.] I tried some of these cross-fingerings on my Susato SB Eb, checking the tuning with flutini. XXO XXX for G#, XOX XXO for Bb, OXX OOO for C, and XXO XOX for G#' were all within ten cents. In fact, the cross-fingerings came up as more in tune than the diatonic notes of the whi...
