I'd be interested to know what you use the oscilloscope for. Can you wire it up to anything?
I don't use it much, and haven't used it for anything practical at all. It shows only what the microphone picks up.

The Google Play Store tells me that Tunepal is written for Android 7.0 "and up" but doesn't work on my Android 12 phone. Newer phones are running Android 13 or 14, so David is probably out of luck as far as Tunepal is concerned.

Re: Any music-related app recommendations?

I have these on my phone, although some of them don't get much use. Musical (Instrument)-related apps: - Instrument Tuner (Pro), by Gebauer Matthias - TTtuner, by Sbodder - Spectroid, by Carl Reinke - Natural Metronome, by Single Minded Productions - Oscilloscope, by XYZ-Apps - Sound Meter HQ Pro, b...

For the Aussie-impaired, what's an op-shop?
Short for "opportunity shop," I'm going to guess. Around here, "thrift store" would be a more common term.

Re: Cylindrical bores and the octave spread problem

What gives? How do you change octave spread from whistle to whistle? Does it have to do with the head design, or something else? I don't know how Colin does it, but there are options. You can increase the relative spread by having a conical body, that gets smaller toward the foot, with a cylindrica...

Re: Kaba "register" harmonics on Kaval

What app are you using to do the frequency analysis/display on the phone in this video? That looks good. I'd like to get something like that to study the frequency components of various notes on some of my own flutes. I recognize that as Spectroid, by Carl Reinke, available in the Google Play Store.

Re: When does a cylinder become a cone?

So did you find a relatively simple formula for what taper angle is required to make a single reed instrument play in tune in both octaves for a given length? I didn't even try. As pointed out early in this script, much depends on the reed, so I'm not confident we can draw general conclusions. What...

Re: Fipple inside tube: blow whistle without any part in mouth?

I must have misunderstood what a fipple is then Well, what exactly a fipple is is open to debate. The label "fipple flute" is frequently applied to members of the subgroup but there is no general agreement about the structural detail of the sound-producing mechanism that constitutes the f...

Have you watched the installation video at http://youtu.be/nDlKJURdHfw ? What platform are you trying to install it on (Windows, Mac, Linux)? Re: New style whistle heads

I used to take for each tonehole a value that I called "cutoff ratio", which is the Tonehole's Local Cutoff Frequency divided by the Tonehole's Frequency. Then by graphing in the Excel the Frequency vs the cutoff ratio I would try to make the toneholes have a linear progression of this ra...

Re: Tweaking a whistle with a dirty/harsh sound

I also have a Generation Eb whistle that sounds very rough. I tried substituting different whistle heads. I know this isn't a novel approach, but I came up with a really nice Eb whistle. I tried a whistle head from a Waltons Little Black whistle. Better, but still kind of rough. Next I tried a whis...

Re: Benefits of HEAVY/heavy wall whistles?

So, I had this really good idea. (Oh how I wish I had a dollar for every time I've said that!) Let's find out what happens when we thicken the wall of a whistle. Yeah, I know, Tunborough can probably model that with one stroke of the keyboard. How could I do it easily? That's where the alleged &quo...

Is there a reason the strip of credit card has to be fitted underneath the existing ramp? If the new edge is going to split the air column at a higher point and further back inside the window, couldn't it just go on top? If you've done this sort of thing before it might be obvious why this is a stu...

Re: Louder whistle with tapered bore?

I would speculate that the cross-sectional area of the windway, and width in particular, might have more impact on overall volume than the cross-section of the tube. That said, a wider bore can accommodate a wider windway.
