Re: Apron/Popping Strap Traditional Material?
My chanter came with a hinged end-piece. Was this an innovation favoured by certain makers or was it more widespread in the past? (the front of Heather Clarke's tutor has a view of this resting on the knee). Photos of old pipers (early part 20th century) often shown them playing standing up with one...

Re: Finbar Furey's Reedmaking Video
Is no one going to mention the hammer! I'm in the early (mainly pre-contemplation) stage of reed making but I can't imagine going anywhere near my reed with a hammer. I'm at work so couldn't check the youtube link submitted. I assumed it was the same as an older one up about 2 years ago on youtube w...

Re: Tune id help! - Cailleach an Airgid
http://www.omniglot.com/songs/irish/sidomhaimeo.php give these lyrics and translations. I had a slightly different version but the irish lyrics are ok and the translation is ok Cailleach An Airgid This is a popular Irish folk song from Connemara. This song is also known as 'Sí Do Mhaimeó Í' / 'Si Do...

I'm new too.
I think he means Private messages. if you look at the top of the page beside logout it should say 1 new message 14 new messages etc, . click on this and you should see who has sent you a PM. (I'm still getting the hang of the interweb).

Re: Focail an Lae
Is there any interest here in people posting words and phrases that grab them in Irish. I love the words for describing people. gives you a great insight into the language and culture. Like the descriptions in the Dineen dictionary. You can read a lot into what was going on at the time . Tá súil aga...

Re: uniqueness
I find it hard to separate the various confounding facotrs. For example I can pick out Clancy, Ennis and Rowsome, but is it knowledge of the styles or maybe its the quality of the recording locating it to a certain time period, the type of tunes, the version they play or maybe the familiarity with t...

Re: NPU Tionol in Listowel
Excellent tionol,I passed Kevin Rowsome trying out a Donncha Dwyer set in the conservatory, Leo rickard in the front porch. Nollaig o Cathasaigh playing as I walked around in between classes, as well as a selection of depressingly talented younger pipers. And some faces new to me. Tadhg Buckley was ...

Re: Public Board Apology No 2
As a longtime lurker on the site, first time poster I was quite pleased to have Uilliam's input. I would have been disappointed moreso if he hadn't responded, When I first dound the site I skimmed through the archive and found generally that he mainly tries to put across his opinions in a passionate...

I was watching the coverage sporadically and everywhere she went, there were uilleann pipers, At the National Stud, At the Banquet, At the concert she hosted at the conference centre. I wondered if I had finally cracked and wasimagining te pipes everywhere but my wife agreed.
