Re: Jeanne Freeman

There comes a point where you just have to accept a recording, for whatever reason, is no longer available. The artist owes you nothing beyond the end of the CD's lifecycle. Just bear that in mind.

Re: Metal Chanters

As it happens I was just catching up with An Píobaire, and Vol 19 No 4 has a picture of a full McNulty/Hunter set.

The chanter was marked both McNulty and Hunter.

Re: Jeanne Freeman

There were members moving in the same circles as 'Cayden', they may know more. 'Ytliek' attended the same comhaltas groups, I believe. Mind you, he hasn't visited the forum since November but it may be worth a shot. Others in the same area too, if you can locate them. One even sent me a PV O'Donnell...

Re: Jeanne Freeman

The CD is no longer available from Jeanne's website.
Are you quite sure? I followed the link above and nowhere in the ordering process, right up to authorising payment, is there any indication the recording is not available.

Re: NEW FLUTE CD : "Auchensail" - Sharon Newton Creasey

The postwoman dropped this in around nine this morning (Thank Kenny, much appreciated), just finished a first spin, very nicely done is my first impression. Will need to listen a few more times before saying more but I have to echo Kenny's observation, made elsewhere, re the piano.

Re: Metal Chanters

:P Pat McNulty, by all accounts, was a great man for the aluminium.

Here's a pic of the chanter in question. The reed cap doesn't belong to it, originally. Coil springs for the keys.

Re: Verdigris

Interesting, Mr Gumby about the high humidity in Clare. Not far from the sea I guess. I doubt it will be much different in the Midlands eventhough the West is usually more humid than the east coast. My point was, obviously, that your 'I was made for Ireland' appears to underestimate the average hum...

Re: Verdigris

Perhaps our poor flute had been summering in the Malaysian highlands. Humidity there approaches 90%.

Argghh, not for me. I was designed for Ireland!
FWIW, RH in Clare is currently well into the nineties, albeit at a temperature of 15 C.

Re: Stand recommendations?

Not particularly subtle, this one, but it is actually very efficient. Last week, during the Willie Clancy week, Geert LeJeune had an array of flutes on display. Apparently he had forgotten to pack his display stand so he went into the local hardware shop and got himself a standard agricultural rake ...

Yes, I got as far as 'Pauline' but the last name was covered in fog.

Was good to see you there, by the way.

A few more, for the craic :tomato: At a concert for Raidió na Gaeltachta, early in the week. Shaskeen (Tom Cussen, Katie Theasby, David Sanders, Mary Liddy, Eamonn Cotter, Patsy McDonagh, John Donnellan, the guitar player's name unfortunately escapes me at the moment) : https://i.postimg.cc/5yZ27LbF...

Hoping for next year.
Isn't Kevin Conneff looking a bit like Paul McCartney these days ? :)
I thought exactly the same, Kenny.

Don't stay away too long, the longer away the more changes you have to cope with in one go.

Check the aul PMs too, while you are here

Re: Willie week 2024

Great photos! Thanks, but at this point I am still reviewing what's there and throwing out a few only edited for size to post online. I have barely touched on the fiddles and flutes and haven't been through pipes, accordion, dancers, singers, concertina or the final concert in any detail. It's very...

Willie week 2024

Last night the men from Cuil Aodha sang Mo Ghile Mear and it was all over for another year. I was'on duty', so to speak, taking photos at the recitals and lectures in the hall, from the daily Lunchtime piping recitals to the night events. Long days, but I got to hear an awful lot of great music. Thi...

Re: Best Penny Whistle?

It has changed over time too, Richard. Perhaps six years or so there was a batch in one if shop and they all looked dog rough, useless. Bits and rough edges everywhere. I was ready to give up on them at that point. Some time later the ones I referred to above came in, they looked clean and all aged ...
