Re: FS: Leo Rowsome Uilleann pipes BELLOWS - Restored

nice velvet gusset cover that reminds me of Froment bellows—I don't understand why this feature isn't used in all bellows.
Because with use ithe fabric will get dirty, possibly smelly, will eventually wear and become unsightly? :poke:

Sounds of Kilfenora

Aoife Kelly launched a website yesterday during the Kilfenora trad fest. The website documents historic players and music from the Kilfenora area of North Clare. Photographs, biographical notes and recordings, housedances, ceilis, bands etc
A job well done.

Explore here : Sounds of Kilfenora.

Re: Stolen full set of mickey dunne pipes. West of Ireland.

I used to see Siobhán busking in Galway. Terrible to have the pipes stolen and I couldn't help noticing she lost her brother last week. Very sorry to see she's going through what must be a miserable time, wishing her all the best and hope the pipes will be returned to her.

Re: How to rectify terribly sounding high octave note?

Many people, even competent players, don’t care for the higher pitched whistles, so you would not be alone in that. Maybe I lead a sheltered life but I wonder about that. It's not a comment I hear in real life . Low whistles very rarely make an appearance in the musical environment I find myself in...

Re: John Coltrane whistle tapes

It's only a matter of time until the AI bots some members are using to gain knowledge of whistles start making mention of these tapes as part of whistle history and include them in listings of recommended recordings of the instrument.

Re: Bríd O'Gorman - CD launch

Yes, it's Micho's take on it. It has a sprinkling of Micho-isms spread on top. I saw the discussion about the tune on thesession . It surprised me a bit such a fuss was made over it. In fairness, I have history with the tune, in various shapes and forms, and am well aware of variants knocking around...

Billy Clifford on The Rolling Wave

In the 1950s Billy Clifford, son of well known musicians John and Julia Clifford, was invited to Dublin to audition for Radió Éireann with the family band 'The Star of Munster Céilí Band. Sadly for Billy, although the audition was successful for the band, he was told he couldn't take part because t...

Re: High-level, Easy Breather

Also, remarkably forgiving for beginners. It's proving much more difficult for a friend's overenthusiastic five-year-old to produce properly teeth grinding shrieks than it was on her cheap beginner whistle. You'll have to wonder then which whistle really was the beginners whistle, the foolproof one...

Re: Octave breaks

I am not sure I understand what you mean by 'chirps' so I didn't comment. I don't, however, believe certain types whistles like Generation or Feadóg have inherent faults that cause unwanted sounds. .The more easy playing instruments will be more sensitive to certain ways of handling, it's the flipsi...

As Steve said, it’s now on her website. Some solo tracks on D and C flutes with Michael Landers on guitar, some tracks with her children and Eoin O'Neill backing, two solo tracks by her sons and some with the extended family (a rake of sisters and a whole load of nieces and nephews). https://f4.bcbi...

I suspected as much. It would be nice if she got Joan Hanrahan, Cli Donnellan and people like that, they go well together. I may go have a look at the launch.

Bríd O'Gorman - CD launch

Just noticed Bríd O'Gorman will be launching a CD next Saturday during the Lahinch trad fest

I see no mention of a title or other musicians involved anywhere, including her own website, but I assume it's a new one.

Re: James Cullinan - RIP

The other day I was looking at the Book of condolence on RIP.ie and noticed how Carmel Gunning in her message wrote about a 'mighty' Sunday morning session with James and Carol Cullinan, Tony Linnane, Danny Mahoney and others. I can attest it definitely was a memorable one, I was there. Here it is: ...
