Re: Does a weak embouchure lead to a flat first octave?

Could be Terry, could be. I actually find the bottom D to be spot on tuning wise (and powerful and hard) with my current embouchure, and the E is ok as well. The F# and G is where it starts to go flat on me. Obviously adjusting the cork would assist with the second octave going sharp, but I'm still ...

Does a weak embouchure lead to a flat first octave?

Have been playing around on the Morvan flute I got in response to the my WTB posting (C&F is truly a wonderful place). Now, I have not been playing very much for the last couple of years, so I am quite sure that my embouchure is not in great shape. As you might expect, with an out of shape embou...

WTB: Morvan Keyed Flute in D

While I am getting my Aebi 8-key restored, I'd love to get my hands on a Morvan keyed flute, if anyone has any leads. 8-key or 6-key would be ideal. I know he doesn't make 8-key anymore so I assume they're as rare as hen's teeth. Perhaps a 6-key is more realistic?

Re: USA Flute Restoration

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I'd been in touch with John Gallagher about getting a flute from him, and he actually said he's not taking new orders at the moment, so I suspect he's too busy to have a go at refurbishing my Aebi. It just seems like too much of a hassle to ship it all the way back...

USA Flute Restoration

Hi All, I have a boxwood Tom Aebi 8-key that needs a full overhaul. Large crack in headjoint that needs repair, keys need polishing and tweaking, bottom C# and C keys are sticky and need re-working, tenons probably need work etc. Basically needs an extremely thorough once-over to restore it to its f...

Re: Am I out of tune? ;)

Maybe some of it also has to with the fact that flute players, unlike fiddle players, are playing an older version of an instrument that is much harder to keep in tune than the modern version. And many of the techniques (keywork etc.) that were used to keep the older versions in tune are not really ...

Sadly, yes. That's where my boss sits, so that's where it'll have to be. Looking forward to meeting the LA session crew in a few months.

Re: Sessions/Lessons in the Los Angeles Area?

Thanks! Very helpful. I'm not thrilled about downtown either, but I need to live near the courthouse as I'd prefer to avoid driving to and from downtown during rush hour. Though I suppose somewhere on the red line is also an option.

Sessions/Lessons in the Los Angeles Area?

I know this is probably better posted in one of the other forums, but I think it'll get more views here. I'm moving to Los Angeles shortly- are there any good sessions and/or flute teachers in the area? I'll be living in the downtown area, probably willing to drive an hour or so if the session is pa...

Re: Problems with Sam Murray. Need Contact Information

I think this message board is generally fair. One never sees gratuitous slandering of makers. I doubt anyone has posted a negative thread about Olwell, Aebi, Gallagher etc. etc.

Re: Problems with Sam Murray. Need Contact Information

I don't think the effect has been non-existent. Prior to reading all of these threads, I might have considered ordering a flute from Murray at some point, now I never will. I'm sure many other readers are the same way. And clearly, on the whole, this is a good thing. If he can publicly be establishe...

Re: The Great and Awesome Flute Youtube Thread

Regardless of how good it did (or did not) sound, it's still not a flute. Leaving aside the fact that it's merely blatant promotion for something you're trying to sell on ebay...

Re: Help - Beloved Sindt Head Stuck On Body

Not much help I'm afraid, but 2 metals of different varieties will most likely always do this if left in contact without movement for an extended period of time.

Since the bonding is chemical, perhaps brute force is the only way. I'm not certain hot water will have much effect in this case.

I think I have a clip of him lying around somewhere of him playing the Irish washerwoman on flute.
