Re: Irish trad musicians in Czech Republic
I have a friend from Prague who studies in Sweden now, a fantastic fiddle player, and she said that there are quite a lot of sessions going on there, or that at least there used to be.

Re: tune id
Tunepal has gotten me some suggestions for tunes that have been interesting to say the least. When some of the guys in our session played The Old Gray Goose, TP stated that "I am 54% sure that this is the national anthem of Tibet", so unless Tibet has a very nice jig as its' national anthe...

Re: syno-names
Not in the trad world. Appearantly, there is a german fellow with the same name as me, who is in some sort of contact with the music business, but otherwise just a voice actor. And there's a Ph.D in economics at Harvard, too.

Re: OT ,do trad musicians have more fun.
I think you may be right, but you seem to forget the biggest advantage of trad music. The fortunes that stand to be made from it, unlike classical music or such.

And I thought that two whistles in the same session was bad enough!

Re: What are your favourite slip jigs?
I should very much like to know how that can possibly compete with playing it against an Em with no 3rd, because that's some progressive and lively stuff right there! http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2011/333/6/f/scratch_head_by_mirz123-d4hndrt.gif Isn't it more like a cliche that's been done to d...

Re: What are your favourite slip jigs?
You can liven up the Butterfly by playing it against a repeating pattern of Em, D, C, D, in power chords (no 3rds). Or, perhaps, liven it up even more by playing it against a repeating pattern of no chords at all. While you do have a point, I should very much like to know how that can possib...

Re: What are your favourite slip jigs?
Promenade is a hop jig, not a slip jig. Totally different rhythmic feel. Hop jigs rule. There are a few others in this thread that might also be said to be hop jigs. The Foxhunter's can be played as such, and I'd say that Fig for a Kiss feels quite hoppy (not in the beer-sense) too. They do tend to...

Re: pipers pastimes
I enjoy cooking, reading and I have a great interest in drink. Mostly I'm deep down in the worlds och whisk(e)y and beer of different varieties (northern and eastern highland scotch whiskies and strange types of belgian beers for example), but I also take great delight in wine, specifically from the...

Re: practice session time
Before I would play for about two hours, structured as follows: 15 min warming up 1 hour practicing two new tunes and working on them in detail 45 minutes of practice to maintain and improve upon the tunes I already know But as my repertoir has grown, 45 minutes is no longer enough, and I was gettin...

Re: What are your favourite slip jigs?
For me, a top three would be:
A Fig for a Kiss
Hardiman the Fiddler
Taim in Arrears
Also making for quite a nice set if one wants!
