Re: transposing soprano to alto fingerings
If you don’t care about the octave you can just play as written, jumping thing up an octave when the notes go too low. If you want to reproduce the pitches that the soprano recorder would sound play everything up one octave. If what is notated is too high you will have to shift to the lower octave. ...

Go to Jack Campin's website. Many standard common tunes, a selection of tunes for flutethat work well, and more than you want to know about modes...with lots of examples. All in abc notation. Check the Neil Gow fiddle tunes too, but realize that some will go outside whistle range. For common slow th...

The Ralph Sweet Onyx is the smallest finger holes I’ve encountered. The sound is quite different, conical bore among other things, but I do like it.

Which pub? My life has slowed a bit and maybe...Nanohedron wrote:It's a lot slower in the Pub than it used to be. Looks like folks would rather get their jollies on Facebook these days. Obviously, I'm one of the holdouts.
The rest of the Board is plugging away pretty much the same as ever.

Oh well, 6 posts. I must be careful not to break the forum... Let me try. What Peter is saying is you really don't play very well yet. Time will doubtless improve things. Until you can get pitches, rhythms, and/or fingerlings correct people are likely to be unforgiving. The problem with whistle, an...

Re: Tune transposing help
Transposing tunes shouldn’t be confusing. These days it’s easy to transpose tunes in ABC to any key you would like. Rather than use the site at Mandolintab.net, you should download an ABC editor and familiarize yourself with it: http://www.nilsliberg.se/ksp/easyabc/ It’s available for Windows and M...

The ocarina version has been folded in various ways. There is what seems to be a whistle version on YouTube.Spielorjh wrote:More importantly, anyone have sheet music scored for the whistle?
If nobody gets it done in the next week or so I may have time to do it.

Re: Whistle Tour - New Maker
I've been part of at least one tour and I'd love to participate. People tend to post their honest reactions on this site- there will inevitably be a "tour thread"- and beware that such tours expose the tour instruments to all sorts of reactions, positive and negative. I've seen makers who...

What software? It plays here. I seem to recall some software gets confused without beginning repeat signs. Add those and see what happens. L: 1/8 is a standard default and so I don't think that is the issue.

Re: A question of Bach
The Wikipedia article has it right. It revolves around melodic minor scales sixth tone and also in pieces like the Handel where even though in a major key the note in question (Ab) might often be raised in pitch by the half step. I think if you view key signatures as convenient shorthand for the sco...
