Re: Happy Feadog Owner
Hmmm. I've purchased a couple of new Feadog's over the internet and found them pretty good, after a little bit of tweaking. Were they better in the past.
(I can tell you that several decades ago, Generation whistles were far superior to the trash they are churning out now.)

Re: David Boisvert Whistle
Panceltic piper.... the most consistent whistle maker has been Mr. Abell...in my opinion. Whistles are like children, every one is different, no matter the heritage or parentage. My buddy (tinwhistler) has a web site where he evaluates whistles. He evaluated one from a maker (let's call him X). I tr...

Re: David Boisvert Whistle
Tinwhistler.com used to play with me in a band. He got a Boisvert whistle that was outstanding. When I got one on his recommendation he agreed it was not playable on stage. It took six months to get a refund. These are facts, not opinions.
Issues? I got the same story ten years ago.

Re: New tin whistle
I have fallen in love with Feadog whistles. Minimal tweaking produces a loud, in-tune, sweet-sounding whistle with a strong low end. I rank the sound as almost as good as my $400 Abell. A company on Amazon called Photogitems will sell u one for $12 with free shipping. Feadog's were not this good yea...

Re: Tune ID
FYI: If you have a smart phone you can download an app called Tunepal. It was developed in Ireland (a major exporter of software). It "listens" to a tune and offers possible tune names, along with a % possibility of being correct, plus the sheet music for each suggestion, and you can click...

Re: Susato Oriole in C and D
One more post about this and I'll shut up. I was playing the Eb last night while looking at a tuner and I realized it's not absolutely necessary to have the top two notes perfectly in tune. Instead of blowing till it gets uncomfortably loud, another approach would be to blow as loud as you dare, and...

Susato Oriole in C and D
I first bought the Eb. While I wasn't bowled over by it, comments from others inspired me to buy the tubes for D and C Orioles. (The head is interchangable between keys). My main problem with the Eb is the insane amount of air needed to bring the top two notes (of the second octave) into tune. While...

Re: Newbee needs advice
Thanks Steve. I don't plan to play flute in a session. My wife plays harp and she could create an accompaniment for any key.

Newbee needs advice
I've been whistling for about 10 years. My hands are normal size for a male, but my fingers don't spead much, so playing a D flute was a challenge. Would one in the key of G be a good idea? Any recommendations for a good starter. I'd like to pay less than $200.

Re: Susato Oriole in Eb, one week later
I've had this whistle a week or so. I really enjoy playing it. Since I don't like to carry expensive whistles with me in the car, this has become my go-to machine for lunchtime playing. Of all my less-expensive whistles, this one has the clearest (and definitely loudest) sound. The bell note is SOLI...

Re: Fred Rose D Whistle -Review
Nicely written! I've never played a Rose, but they've always been well spoken of. I have owned two Abell's. My preference is for the one in blackwood and I sold off the Delrin, not that there was anything wrong with it. My only criticism of the Abell whistles is the short "beak". I like to...
