Pretty amazing to get anything for 300 with an actual carved top! I am thinking that laminated woods for the pressed tops are just adding one more step to the process and I'm glad to have a solid wood pressed top these days. After all, it's workin for me. If I'd held out for an American made instrum...

The tops and backs could pretty easily be stamped out if this article has any credibility.

Well the Fylde and the Peterson both look pretty darn nice to me and that Celtic Cross one could even be the best of the bunch. You really never know till you have it in hand though I've had some pretty good luck with Ebay. More good than bad. The current bids make them pretty tempting. I've had goo...

Thanks Tommy! That's a lot easier on the change purse too I see. We have a HD man, Bill Robinson here that my daughter takes lessons from and if I get intimidated by it I'm sure he will install it for me. LOL...plus I'm sure he can set it up in about a quarter of the time it'd take me too.

die cast tailpiece for zouk or OM

Any recommendations on a manufacturer of die cast tailpieces for zouks or Octave mandolin? I thought I'd popped one of my A's on the zouk last night but nooooooo..... The tiny prong on the tailpiece is no more. If this happened a year from now I'd probably replace it with an equally flimsy one and s...

I picked up a lovely Morgan Monroe Octave mando from a person on the Mandolin Cafe classifieds for $300 a while ago and it gets better and better as months go by. And I know some may chuckle, but for the money, it is an exceptionally well turned out instrument. I never have had the opportunity to pl...

The big SCA stuff is just starting up according to their website and there will be a lot going on over the next couple of months so as to catch the best weather. I'll ask some of our locals. Meanwhile, post if they find a good home OK?

I'd have gone to it also, but heard about it just now after reading your post! Is there a list to get on for notification? (Ha! Like that will help if they send out the flyer the day before the fest......)

Amazing photos! I get the shivers every time the sky gets yellow but I never hit the basement till the last second. There's a lot of "degrees" of tornadoes, all of them pretty bad. At least they all seem bad by the time they dance through here. I've been lucky enough to never lose my whole...

I saw the Irish wolfhounds and they were spectacular! The whole thing was spectacular though, and I could not tear myself away from the paid acts even to try and look for people. I enjoyed it this year more than I have in any other year. I can hardly wait till the next one!

The Mad for Trad tutor is about as good as you can get for a non-person teacher. It is definately a step up from a lot of the video ones in that it helps teach you to keep your rhythms from being monotonous while staying with the format of the songs.

I will be there again this year, but only on Sunday. Going to catch Different Drums and Flook for sure, but I'll be wandering from stage to stage a lot. I'll try to keep my eye out for Jim. He's a magnet for people so I will probably be able to meet some of you by spotting him! My daughter is seriou...
