Re: Felix Doran in a Ceiidh band 1964?

Yes it is Brian. I believe that it's Josie McDermott and Tommy Flynn playing at 3:13 until Felix starts to play at 3:39 minutes. The musicians around 3.13 are Con Curtain, landlord of the Balloon pub in Lots Rd.London, and the flute player is Paddy Taylor, who made a nice LP about 10 years later, and ...

Re: Ebay Items

Banana wood? I now play Banana Wood chanters all the time, they seem to suck a little extra tone from a good reed and are a bit warmer than the many Blackwood/ Rosewood chanters I have owned. There is just one exception and that is a C chanter made by Ned White in Pennsylvania, around 1860/70ish,ha...

Pillar Mounted Chanter Keys

I recently bought some of the Howard unfinished chanters, forgetting that he mounted his keys on metal pillars and not the block mounts which are more common. As they were turned down but did not have the holes drilled I forgot that I would need to have to send them to a pipemaker/flute maker to have...

Re: Seamus Ennis's recordings for "Louie"

Ennis was approaching his peak ,in my opinion, around that time. The Doolin recordings he made maybe a few years later were also superb. Present day pipers, who do their homework properly, or maybe those who aspire to be pipers in future years, can only hope to emulate the great master, learning to ...

David Power and Willie Kelly,New Recording.

I have just heard four tracks from David Power/Willie Kellys new cd. It is absolutely splendid. I would thoroughly recommend it to every piper, whether advanced or novice, great selection of tunes, and played the way it used to be played. I do not post very often on this forum, but being so impresse...
