Re: Buying an anglo concertina - what key and layout?
Hi! A bit late, but congrats. I own a Morse Ceilí since 4 or 5 years ago, and feel very happy with it. Have to say it has a Jeffries layout, what I think is more useful for ITM than the Wheatstone one, with only one C# on the right side... Of course, has not real concertina reeds, but for the price ...

Re: Stagi concertinas: okay for slow tunes?
My 2 cents ... it's not that a slow-to-speak Stagi can't handle playing slower melodies or slow chording for song accompaniment. It can. But the details suffer . The cuts and taps, the note to note connections (portamento), swelling notes, etc. The things that make your playing expressive, not just...

Re: Stagi concertinas: okay for slow tunes?
Hi everybody. I've owned a Rochelle, that I had to sell :( , a Stagi - under the brand Gremlin - that I bought at Hobgoblin in Greater Manchester, And the box that I play nowadays, - the one of my avatar -: a Morse Ceili. Even being bigger and cheaper, I think the Rochelle is by far, into its limita...

ITM in Manchester, England
Hi, everybody. Now after a month from my wedding in Sale, Trafford, I do realize that I never went to a traditional irish session in Manchester! Should any kind mancunian tell me about the ITM scene & sessions in Greater Manchester, please? I guess I would be there next August a couple of weeks....

Re: OK Anglo ITM Players, the gloves come off!
Hi, everybody. Rick, being based in Madrid, Spain were there's no access at all to any concertina teacher - not even another player, as far as I know! - I had to get as many tutorials as possible for to learn by myself. Mick Bramich's is a good one if you have no idea about the instrument; I found i...

Re: Playing Irish Music on Anglo Concertina
Now, this is really funny. I play regularly in a session in Madrid - for those who know it, is held in Taberna Elisa every Monday's night -. One of the best musicians - and I've proudly to say, one of my best friends - is an irishman who plays wonderfully pipes, but never was able to understand the ...

Re: Playing Irish Music on Anglo Concertina
Thanks again everybody. I think I'm in the way. Now I'm learning to use both of the C# on the RH Acc, and makes more sense to use them in different phrases or triplets. I'm afraid that I'm only impatient to play all my irish fiddle repertoire on the tina - and be sure there are quite a few tunes... ...

Re: We all hate these, but...considering concertina
I've played a Rochelle, a Stagi and my nowadays box, a Morse - 2nd hand, 1600 $ -. No comparisons... A good concertina worths every penny you put into it. So, IMHO, saving up IS the only option, if you want to improve. Looking forward some years to have a Suttner! - 4 years waiting list, I reckon I'...

Re: note from Bob Tedrow
I'm following that with a great interest & saving everything in a pdf. Very beatiful instruments you make! I did the same with Wim Wakker's at Concertina Connection and it's funny how different are methods to achieve the same instrument Anyway, I prefer your method... always liked more good craf...

Re: Playing Irish Music on Anglo Concertina
Thanks to everybody for the kind answers. Yes, Julia; I'm awared of that document - I even printed it, and another one called 'A Suplementary Concertina Tutor' , that I find very useful - but still struggling with the low DEF# run & my tendence to play fiddle rolls - old vice! -. On the ot...

Re: Playing Irish Music on Anglo Concertina
Many thanks again. Yes, I think I'm doing that well - I mean, to avoid 'chopping' - and even avoid to use the same finger between columns without a note - any - in the middle. I suposse that unconciously avoided the use of the G row because it feels uncomfortable to me... well, learn this can not be...

Re: Playing Irish Music on Anglo Concertina
Thanks, Azalin ( a lot of known people of the other forum here  ) What do you mean with cross-rowing? changing rows within the same side of the instrument or changing between sides? 'Cos I already play changing sides, but use most the C row - the LH G row only 2nd, 4th & 5th buttons -. Chee...

Playing Irish Music on Anglo Concertina
Hi, everybody. I don't post very often, but have a couple of newbie questions about playing tunes on the 'tina (My instrument is a C/G anglo Morse Ceili in Jeffries layout): - I tend to play the tunes in G scale mainly in the pull, so this means that the bellows stretches wery quickly & have to ...

Impressive videos. I really like your poliphonic abilities, being myself an ITM player never understood how to play farther than the ocassional drone
