Re: Any Suggestions for a Name?

Funny thing about pronunciation; it's always correct until somebody objects...

Re: Any Suggestions for a Name?

I was going to suggest dulcinea, but then found that someone else had already done so.

I need to come to this forum more often.

Check out the other charts he has posted if this one doesn't suit your flute.

Thanks! I'll peruse the site. Sorry, should have said mine's keyless, but I can work backwards along the link. Thanks again.

Third Octave Chart for Concert Flute?

Is there a 'reliable' or 'comprehensive' 3rd-octave fingering chart for concert ('Irish') flutes? I've been able to get a few notes of the third octave out of my D Sweetheart, but the specific fingerings would come in handy for songs in A or G, for example.

Re: Flute vs. Piccolo vs. Fife

I've played fifes (folk fifes) and an Irish/Concert flute (all by Sweetheart, plus a couple of Cooperman Bb's and a yamaha and an aulos fife) for over ten years, or since before Y2k, at any rate  . In My experience, Some folks just need more work before they can make a good embouchure ande/or ...

Re: My wooden flute doesn't emit any sound - help please

If someone has already mentioned this, then I apologize profusely. Paulina, judging from the picture and your and other's posts, what you have is commonly referred to as a 'transverse recorder,' meaning that it is side-blown, rather than end-blown. I have two such instruments, both plastic (white pl...

Re: You Know You Are An Irish Flute Player When....

You try to go back to whistling but find you have so much more control on the fife that whistling just doesnt have the appeal it once did. :really:

Re: Difference between irish flute and transverse flute?

I'll have to agree with Jem on the idea that the type of flute in question (conical-bore,simple system, six-hole, keyed or keyless) can only be called "Irish" for the most tenuous of reasons. I prefer to call the modern-made, keyless, tuned to D in A=440 flutes of this type "Neoceltic...

Re: HOW OFTEN DO YOU OIL YOUR FLUTE?

YIKES! I just realized I inadvertently omitted that I only oil about three times per year or once per year, depending on the flute and what wood it's made of; I do so, though, only if I have a high-use event coming up or if an event occurring around those times has proven to requite a lot of use of ...

Re: HOW OFTEN DO YOU OIL YOUR FLUTE?

I only oil mine before what promises to be a heavy-use event, and after, if the potential pans out; since I play a stringed instrument in addition to the fifes and flute, which instrument(s) I actually use can vary extremely. (but I always carry all of them with me)
