Olympia Beer made a light beer called Olympia Gold. The slogan used in Olympia Gold commercials was "All our water is personally passed by our inspector.". That is wrong on so many levels.

I remember an old Arthur C. Clarke story where the communication infrastructure began to behave as an independent entity (after every working phone on the planet rang at the same time and gave a simple dial tone on the phones that were picked up). I thought about this and took that idea farther as a...

Actually, the drinking gourd is Ursa Minor, Polaris being the star at the end of the handle that the stars Merak and Dubhe at the wide end of Ursa Major align with. Sorry if I'm being pedantic, but being in Star Fleet compels me to bring this up.

Coming in slightly ahead or slightly sharp is usually done very subtly. They are just a couple of the many tricks used by musicians, so I don’t suggest them as panaceas, just one more thing to have heard in other people’s music and to try if it seems like it would help in a particular situation. I m...

There is the trick of coming in on the emphasized note a bit sharp and/or a bit ahead of the beat, but not to the point it sounds wrong, obviously. Many of us whites can have trouble with that, as we can be rather square. Fortunately it’s not genetic. It’s the byproduct of years of strong enculturat...

I’ve often wondered if some odd chunks of falling ice might be of non-terrestrial origin, some sort of small comet type body that might make it to the ground. It might be interesting to analyze such bodies structurally and chemically and look at the isotope ratios.
