- Tell us something.: Hi All - I am a Celtic music performer with a band called Beyond the Heather, located in the Lawrence, KS/Kansas City area. I sing, play whistles, SSP and bodharan. I've been a C&F member since 2003 but haven't posted much recently.

Re: Joe Ryan's
Hi Kenny - I don't dispute the name of the tune, it was the setting I was confused about.
When I clicked on the SHEETMUSIC tab, I got something that starts on 'B'.
What is being played in the video starts on 'F#'.
After further review, I noted in the COMMENTS for this tune the following:
Cock and the Hen
This tune is in Ryan's Mammoth Collection of Fiddle tunes (aka Cole's 1000 ...) as "The Cock and the Hen".

F#m Setting
~F3 FEF c2 A | ~F3 FEF AFE | ~F3 FEF c2 d | ecA BAF AFE :|
ecA ABc d2 f | ecA ABc BAF | ecA ABc d2 B | cBA BAF AFE :|
So, anyway, my confusion has been dispelled.
Thanks,
LEE

So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!

This is called Denis Ryan's aka The Cock and the Hen aka Catherine McConnel's. Got music for it here: http://www.whistlethis.com/index.php?co ... pJPQ%3D%3DLeel wrote:What is the first tune on this video?
He claims it is Ryan's Slip Jig, but when I pull the dots from session it's not even close.

i wouldn't be too quick to judge the guy's playing. it takes a lot
of guts to post that for the world to see. if he's having a good time
and no one is forcing you to watch/listen, then why should it matter how
he plays? he's clearly an amateur, but i thought that's what youtube is
largely about -- a chance for amateurs to show what they are made of.
some are clearly better than others. i wouldn't call this person terrible --
i've seen better and i've seen worse. if i had to judge, i'd say he's
probably average for someone with 3 - 4 years experience playing tunes
on the tin whistle. give the guy time and i'm sure he will develop some
polish and a little more understanding of the music. it doesn't
just "happen" overnight.
ever been mugged by a quaker?

Be very glad you're career choices didn't steer you towards being a someone who gives advice for a living, because that's probably the most irrelevant and assinine advice I've ever heard.what the heck is your problem, bub???
a bit of advise: fishing for complements is a lot like fishing in a toilet. you will very often end up with the same "prize."
