Nice improv Clarinetcat.

One of the really cool features of another music related forum that I check regularly is that users are able to embed a mini soundcloud player in their posts. No need to leave the forum or thread to listen.
Example: http://www.vi-control.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18415

Seems like it would be a nice option to have here. I have no idea how difficult it would be to implement something like that. I did notice that this forum and the one in the example both say that they are both 'powered by phpBB', which makes me think that they are both capable of having the same features. (?)

Can you make this downloadable for those who are Flash/Javascript averse?

Yes, I know, Denny. Let me rephrase the request: CCat, please make your file downloadable ...

The underlying sound file is exposed on the page:

http://media.soundcloud.com/stream/V3b8 ... oken=nzCfN

I'd just rather not have to dig to find it.

Well, our philosophy here tends to be that simpler is better. For Chiffers worldwide who may have a slower internet connection. For people who believe in an open HTML standard that doesn't require propietary 3rd party apps like Flash. For people who prefer to choose for themselves how to play music files on their own computers.

Just looked at soundcloud for the first time.
I do like to see the waveform in my sound editor, but for general playback I find it distracts from listening to the music. Even though the waveform may give a chance to start playback at a given point in an easier fashion, but is that important for general playback? A gimmick, but cool?
I think I prefer the cleaner look of box.net.
OTOH getting/seeing comments underneath a track may be a good thing (or not).

PS soundcloud vs box.net:
soundcloud free account has a limit of 100 downloads per track, box.net has none. That looks like a serious drawback for soundcloud.
And soundcloud free account has a limit of 120 minutes total track time, box.net has a 5Gb file space limit, which is way more time if using mp3 (like ca 1Mb per 1 min of music in standard compression).

Hehehe... I'm all for style points, but on public forums I usually leave url's as-is so people can see what they're clicking. :poke:
Even that doesn't seem to be a guarantee of where the link will send you.

This looks like a link to Google.
