and to my question:
As a guitar player I really like to play irish music.
Lately i discovered the band Dervish and i Really like to play their music.
A few days ago i learned to play their song grainne from the travelling show album , unfortunately i don't have the lyrics for this song and I can't find them anywhere on the net.

Hi, and welcome to the Chiffboard!

You may not have much luck with this. Gráinne is a recently-composed and copyrighted song by Cathy Jordan (music) and Sharon Vaughn (lyrics). They don't seem to have released the lyrics on the net. So your best bet may be to transcribe from the recording.

"This shall not be the life for you
My dear and lovely daughter
I will not lose in luck and risk
Another to the sea ... "

Dr. Mierzwiak: Well, technically speaking, the procedure is brain damage.

Hi MTguru, thanks for your warm welcome and reply.

Actually i don't have the CD to do the transcribing. I wanted to buy a copy of it but i couldn't find it in music shops in my country (nor in big ones like tower record).
I guess i'll just have to order it Via the internet and hope it Includes the Lyrics in it.

Anyway till i order and get the CD delivery ,If someone have the lyrics and maybe can write it down for me, I will be grateful
thanks again,

[Thread revival. - Mod]

Adismo, Did you ever figure out the lyrics for Dervish's song 'Grainne' or did anyone ever send them to you ?

I'm trying to figure out what Cathy is singing and would appreciate any assistance you might render.

Thanks,

Zpiper

I'm no good at noting down a melody after it hearing a few times, but lyrics are my thing, and I decided to take a run at this. She's not a clear singer, and the words are complex. And I took one run through the song and didn't do any error checking. I'm sure I'm hilariously wrong in many places, but if you're no good at lyrics (like I'm no good at melody, but hey, I'm a lit major) this might give you the start you need. Here goes:
This shall not be the life for you
my dear and lovely daughter
I will not lose the luck
and risk another to the sea

My mother I must break your heart
for I must follow father
I'm destined for a caravan
and Garry
And I'll marry
I be (I'll be?)

Return and non offend you in from gold and Barcelona
from out the fog the pirates came and nearly always lost
And will they two accept for the red dagger of young Grainne

who screamed above the frame assailed
as rally
and I'll marry
I'll be

I met a shield and needle fine
albeit of gentle hand
but I will always soldier near a man
And I will wear a spanish server
a-broadship on me breast
and dance the fusilage
in peaks and valleys
and I'll marry
I be

Donal I have married you and bore your children gladly
But you did die of joyces and believe me not to do
but safe the marriage hand of some and yeah, I treated badly
but he knows the sea will be my home for family
And I'll marry
I be

I met a shield and needle fine
albeit of gentle hand
but I will always soldier near a man
And I will wear a spanish server
broadship on me breast
and dance the fusilage
in peaks and valleys
and I'll marry
I be

With edgin' eyes horizen borne
will there in castles grand
still I will always soldier near a man
and it will ring in becks
and sing in riggins when I'm gone
and pirates primacharges it to tarry
and I'll marry
I be

and dance the fusilage
in peaks and valleys
and I'll marry
I be
I hope that gets you somewhere. Reading it through, it's obvious that some of it's wrong, but maybe that'll get you started.
And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')
