I think it's too cute for words...

Re: Some cheap iPhone/iPod Touch drones for the whistle players
You didn't mention the concertina app. I thought that was way cool. I don't own an iPhone or IPod so I will just sit on the sidelines and covet. And the few friends that I do have who own iPhones aren't good enough, cool enough, or nice enough to buy this app and let me monopolize their phones.
Rose tint my world. Keep me safe from my trouble and pain.

Re: Some cheap iPhone/iPod Touch drones for the whistle players
Why should only pipers have all the fun...
JustDrones supports the standard Uilleann pipes keys of Bb, B, C, C#, and D, and also the higher pitch keys of E, F, G, and A.
As you can see in the images below, I've also added an optional additional drone either a 3rd, 4th, or 5th scale tone above the root:
JustDrones Off:
JustDrones On, Key of D, 3rd Interval Drone Enabled:
JustDrones On, Key of G, 5th Interval Drone Enabled
I learned this trick from Mikie Smyth, sounds great with a chanter or whistle in D:
Volume control of both the main and interval drones can be controlled independently and all settings are saved between uses of the app.
App submitted tonight to Apple, should be on the store next week for $0.99.
Cheers,
Michael

Re: Some cheap iPhone/iPod Touch drones for the whistle players
A Further Business Opportunity: Please sell me UP drones that I can play in ITunes! ('cos I haven't convinced myself to spring for the iPod Touch yet...)
I have a cd of cello drones (very deep and resonant & somehow drive me batty after 5 min) and one of synthesized drones (rather electronic sounding). So I am an established consumer of drones, but stil in search of my Dream Drone In particular I have been wanting UP drones (including the weird keys).
Could you make/sell mp3 drones? I'd be happy to paypal you for a download, cd, or whatever...

if it's just for personal practice rather than commercial reproduction, sample a bit off the front of a Cillian Vallely CD track, edit and save as mp3 in Audacity, then transpose variants, and loop play on the laptop? Works for me... also for some basic bodhran pattern backings (but you have to be dead accurate with your edit points). There are quite a few live recordings of some of the best pipes in the world with long drones before the tune kicks in - wait til they've finished tuning though!
