Just finished nearly two years apprenticing under maker Michael Hubbert. Another thing I finished was this set I've been making for myself. The materials are ebony, brass, and ivory (Pre-ban stuff given to me. Got the docs for it and all is well). It really puts things into perspective making these beasties. I'm going to go have a six pack, take up accordion, and get some rest while there's still some summer to enjoy and I head off to grad school. :D

Congratulations! Eloquent looking set of pipes. They''ll be a classic for some time to come. Loved to see and hear them sometime at a tionol perhaps? :D
Good luck in grad school. All the best,

I look forward to seeing them in Nov. (trans: can I try them then? Please?).
I didn't know there was a Masters program in advanced pipe making. Cool! :D

Looks like it was a successful internship! Those pipes look as nice as anything else coming out of the Hubbert workshop. Maybe you'll return to pipemaking after grad school? (We can hope.)

Thanks Bob! That's very kind! I hope to get back to it once I can get a old of all the tools (which there are many upon many) and find a place to settle down with a job to bankroll a shop. So that'd be what, like 50 years from now?

First time poster, first time piper, where better to put a picture of my first pipes!

Aaron Setunsky made this practice set for me.

Cocobolo and African Blackwood mounts, bellows are Cherry.

On a side note; I had been tracking them and saw they came into town this morning to the post office. I was crawling up the walls all morning waiting, and almost assaulted the mail lady when she pulled in front of my apartment. :)

A new forum member from Finland here, so hello everyone! :)

This is my hybrid half set in D. The drones (plum with boxwood mounts and brass with a walnut main stock) are made by Richard L. Patkós. The bag, bellows and chanter are Ray Sloan's fine work. I am really happy with the set and actually just got the drones in mail today. Their sound is really deep and sweet. The chanter is also wonderful, even though I had long problems with the reed.. Now it's ok again and plays like a dream. All in all, a great pipe cocktail for me :)
