When I listed to your clip, I was racking my brain because it sounded so familiar. Just remembered where I heard it from: http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?t=50618

I just listened to the youtube clip and I went to jc's tunefinder and downloaded Saddle the Pony. I just couldn't rectify my tune with either of those. ??

Saddle the Pony also appears on the same page as yours, just further down. That one appears to be a band version of the tune. It is damn good tune.

I just had a listen. I can hear phrases that appear in both, but I still can't make them the same tune. :-?

Yikes ... It's definitely not Saddle the Pony, no resemblance whatsoever.

Tony, your mystery jig is "The Return Home", a modern tune written by flute player Skip Healy. It's actually listed as such on the Gaelic Roots CD, and has also been recorded by Solas and several others:

Thanks a million, MT. (I still have to go listen for myself as soon as I get home from work.) And I have Nugent's Two for Two. And I'll try the abc's on session.org. The more variations, the better.

err... are you sure?

I think most people would refer to that tune by that name although I think it's down as The Priest's Leap/The Red Stockings in O'Neill's

The tune listed as 'Saddle the Pony' in O'Neill's (Cuir Diallaid Air An Clibin) is a different tune

... which I presume is a version of Langstrom's Pony?

Refer to which tune, Mark? The clip in question is this one:
http://tinwhistletunes.com/clipssnip/Au ... gTonyH.mp3

It's an A Dorian tune. Here's my basic transcription of Tony's playing:

X:1
T:Return Home, The
C:Skip Healy
M:6/8
K:ADor
E2A ABd|e2e edB|d2d dBG|dBG dBG|
A2A ABd|efe edB|gfg ege|dBG A3:|
e2a aga|bga g2e|fef dBA|GAB deg|
a2a aga|bga g2e|fed BAG|ABA A3:|

I'm not sure what you guys are hearing. I'm well familiar with the other ponies. This tune ain't no diminutive equine. :-)

Tony, care to chime in?

No problem, mate. I figured there was a mismatch of tunes involved here. :-)
