Hi
Where i can look for Doug Tipple Flutes?
I want to buy a flute in D (I think i need a D flute after all)
I want a soft and warm tone so i think it should not be a high pitch.

Be sure to ask for the lip plate and wedge. They're well worth the extra few bucks. Speckled bore is nice too, if he's got it. Lovely flute!

No.....my very, very early ancestors.....maybe. I think it's a replica of the Neanderthal flute that is believed to be the oldest musical instrument ever found. Notice how similar to a pennywhistle it is!!

I don't remember the details about it, but you can "google" on 'Neanderthal Flute' to get the whole story.

Unfortunately, the wikipedia entery is under "flute" and has no information about the bone flute.

With so little of the flute remaining, how the mouthpiece was formed clearly has to be artistic license on the part of the replicator.

This thread has been resurrected from the distance past when I was making flutes from a lot of pvc, which I called dimpled-bore pvc. I maintained that the dimples in the bore of the pvc caused the pipe to have improved acoustic properties. However, when that lot of pvc was depleted, I was no longer able to offer the dimpled-bore pvc, which was basically an extrusion anomaly. It is not like you can go into a store and buy dimpled-bore pvc. I am sure that the manufacturer would be happy if there never was another lot of dimpled-bore pvc, because it would be considered a defect in the plumbing world.

However, all is not lost. I let my imagination get the best of me, so now I have a speciality pvc, which I call speckled-bore pvc, that has taken the place of the dimpled-bore pvc. I hope that that is clear. I have a separate page at my website about the speckled-bore pvc, of which, by the way, I still have about 100 feet. When that is gone, I will need to do some hard thinking about something to replace it. Freckled-bore, cracked-bore, and splintered-bore are just a few of the possibilites that I have been considering.

I have had one of Doug's earlier flutes for a few years now. It's a model with a marbled wrap over the PVC and a metal slide. I bought it because I was struggling to get started with the flute and I heard that his were easy to play. It is definitely easy, and helped me get started.
