A young player from the North, Barry Kerr, plays one. He just started a US tour this week with Na Dorsa. Saw them Saturday night, and spoke to him after the show. Very nice fellow. I'm not qualified to to comment on the quality of the flute, but it sounded damn good to me. They we're unmiced and he had no problems holding his own with the fiddle and the box.

He has a CD out, "The Three Sisters", a track from which is going on the Wooden Flute Obsession CD.

There's a link to an MP3 of Barry there.

If you go to Brad Hurleys Wooden Flute Guide site and look in the flute maker directory you will find an address and phone number for Patrick Olwell. He's very good to work with. I've sent him several letters with questions and he's taken the time to respond to each. I'm on the list for an Olwell Keyless and I have and enjoy an Olwell Bamboo flute in d.

Another option are the great polymer flutes from Michael Cronnolly and Desi Seery.
These are ideal for learning as they are inexpensive, durable, sound great, are in tune, and are loud, projective flutes. Also, they require no maintenance.
