Hello,
I was hoping someone would be to help me identify this chanter.
A friend of mine purchased this half set for $200 from the a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend (or something like that). Nothing is known about the set. Upon opening the case it was obvious immediately that the half set was Pakistani. I did what I could for the drones, rewrapped some joints etc. It's rough.
Now the twist...
The chanter barely played at first. I removed the cheap Pakistani reed and popped in an old Kirk Lynch reed I had laying around. To my astonishment it played amazingly. The chanter is crisp, snappy and almost perfectly in tune in both octaves. I just can't accept that it is a cheap chanter. If it is, he is the luckiest SOB I have ever met. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!
Here is a link to the files. I couldn't figure out how to embed. Sorry!

Identify this chanter
Re: Identify this chanter
That looks like a Dave Williams stick.
If it is, that’s a bargain!

Re: Identify this chanter
Dave Williams always stamped his chanters with his name. Maybe Alan Ginsberg.

Yep, I have a cheap Pakistani chanter somewhere, different design but also played bang in tune with the first random spare reed I pulled out of the reject box. The keys were uncomfortable but it wasn’t bad, not sure if it had been reworked
