Rocking the Cradle is also a song, known in Ireland, England and Australia, at least. One example of it is "The wee one", or "I am a young man cut down in my blossom", collected from Sally Sloan in Lithgow, NSW. The English singer and folklorist, A.L.Lloyd, who spent many of his younger years in Australia, recorded a version: "I am a young man, from the town of Kiandra". (Kiandra is a country town in our Snowy Mountains region of NSW.) Lloyd explained that he called it that as he knew a young man from that town in the same situation.

More about the song here: https://mainlynorfolk.info/lloyd/songs/ ... radle.html

And here's a version by the McCalmans using Lloyds words: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZqubVmyf_8

And what do we make of his pitch? About 80 cents sharp? Achieved by pushing the flute head in, or confused by errors in the speed of the recording or replay?
